The 1972 Act is the vehicle that sees regulations flow into UK law directly from the EU’s lawmaking bodies in Brussels.
The announcement of the Act’s repeal marks a historic step in returning lawmaking powers from Brussels to the UK. We are taking back control of our laws, as the public voted for in 2016.
The repeal of the European Communities Act 1972 will take effect when Britain formally leaves the EU on October 31.
Speaking after signing the legislation that will crystallise in law the upcoming repeal of the ECA, the Secretary of State for Exiting the EU Steve Barclay said:
This is a clear signal to the people of this country that there is no turning back - we are leaving the EU as promised on October 31, whatever the circumstances - delivering on the instructions given to us in 2016.
The votes of 17.4 million people deciding to leave the EU is the greatest democratic mandate ever given to any UK Government. Politicians cannot choose which public votes they wish to respect. Parliament has already voted to leave on 31 October. The signing of this legislation ensures that the EU Withdrawal Act will repeal the European Communities Act 1972 on exit day.
The ECA saw countless EU regulations flowing directly into UK law for decades, and any government serious about leaving on October 31 should show their commitment to repealing it.
That is what we are doing by setting in motion that repeal. This is a landmark moment in taking back control of our laws from Brussels.

I forgot...who got the UK into that filthy EU in the first place?
We’ll see...I do wish them the best. It might not be an understatement to say that the fate of the Western World depends, in large part, on a successful Brexit.
They’ll be in mourning at the Reichstag.
Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves!
Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
When Britain first, at heaven’s command,
Arose from out the azure main,

The song still ain’t quite true - in fact it’s rather the opposite - but this is great news.
I think the teapot thing had to do with maximum power levels in devices that heat up water.
I guess it was a bit too complicated for Brussels, but if lowering the amount of heat put into water to bring it to a boil, all you do make it take longer to start boiling. And taking it one step further, for every second someone is waiting for water to boil, heat is being lost to atmosphere, so in the end, the slower you heat up water temperature, the MORE energy you need to use to get the same result.
The other issue I remember was less with the UK and more with Italy, when Brussels determined it was no longer safe for Europeans to consume olive oil out of small bottles when eating out, and instead were trying to force everyone to use plastic packets (like ketchup at McDonald’s). Perhaps they were thinking that the bottles were vulnerable to Islamic terrorism...but worrying about terrorism threats for Muslims would be a first for the EU, so I doubt it was that.
Anyway, both were starting to factor into the Brexit vote, so the EU pulled back and also ordered their Fascists in Brussels to basically NOT publish any new laws until AFTER the Brexit vote...in other words, they were colluding to effect an election outcome. No surprise.
Well, got rid of the EU statists, now get the foatguckers outta the country and the UK might still have a chance . . .
Hard Brexit first. Then see if the EU doesn’t want to talk. American sure will talk to them. They may even give them prefrred treatment for 10 years.
YES!
Nice.
Well it certainly has caused quite a few arguments between countries!

Back in the USSR, yeah ...
Let loose the dogs of war. GB standing on the rim of the volcano this is a step back; the EU goons will be running up the hill to push them in now.
WOW! What great news to wake up to! Congrats BritFam!
Well I suppose all stereotypes have at least an anecdotal connection to reality. But afaik, the British have been going to war over tea (and, as a symbol of trade) for centuries. The so-called opium wars were not really so much about opium but about the triangle trade with China and India - including tea, silver, wool and silk.
Speaking of stereotypes, the stereotype of the Chinese Opium Den... well, the British were importing opium to China. It is not or was not a native plant or a native practice until it was smuggled into China from India (from Afghanistan/Pakistan) by British and Dutch traders.
