FULL TITLE: Rashida Tlaib Suggests HBO Boycott After Bill Maher Calls Antisemitic BDS Campaign a ‘Bulls*it Purity Test’
Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) suggested a boycott of HBO after the network’s host Bill Maher ripped the anti-Israel “boycott, divestment, sanctions” (BDS) movement and called it a “bullshit purity test.” “BDS is a bullshit purity test by people who want to appear woke but actually slept through history class,” Bill Maher said Friday.
“It’s predicated on this notion, I think — it’s very shallow thinking — that the Jews in Israel, mostly white, and the Palestinians are browner, so they must be innocent and correct, and the Jews must be wrong,” the Real Time host continued. “As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this completely peaceful people found themselves occupied.”
The Michigan Democrat fired back at Maher saying “Maybe folks should boycott his show.”
“I am tired of folks discrediting a form of speech that is centered on equality and freedom,” Rashida Tlaib said. “This is exactly how they tried to discredit & stop the boycott to stand up against the apartheid in S. Africa. It didn’t work then and it won’t now.”
To be clear, Rep. Tlaib has a long history of antisemitism, including opposing Israel’s right to exist. Tlaib also voted against a massacre rejecting the BDS campaign in July. The resolution received overwhelming support in the House of Representatives.

“Real Time” host Bill Maher spent part of Friday’s show slamming the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, calling it a “bulls-— purity test.”
Maher kicked off the show’s panel segment by asking if it was “fair” to boycott, divest, and sanction Israel in wake of the clash between the Israeli government and pro-BDS U.S. Reps. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., and Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., over their planned visit to Israel.
But since Maher’s panelists all sidestepped the question, he decided he would “answer it myself.”
“It’s a bulls-— purity test, BDS is a bulls-— purity test by people who want to appear ‘woke’ but actually slept through history class,” Maher said, drawing loud cheers from the audience. “It’s predicated on this notion ... I think it’s very shallow thinking that the Jews in Israel are mostly white and Palestinians are mostly brown, so they must be innocent and correct and the Jews must be wrong. As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this ‘completely peaceful people’ found themselves occupied. Forget about the intifadas and the suicide bombings and the rockets and how many wars.”
The HBO star quoted BDS movement founder Omar Barghouti, who said, “No Palestinian — rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian — will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
“So that’s where that comes from, this movement. Someone who doesn’t even want a Jewish state at all,” Maher told the panel. “Somehow this side never gets represented in the American media. It’s very odd.”
Maher then noted how Saudi Arabia doesn’t let Jews into the kingdom and listed statistics of several Middle Eastern countries where the Jewish population had plummeted in recent years.
“And Congresswoman Omar has said things like, ‘It’s all about the Benjamins,’ ‘Israel has hypnotized the world,’ ‘May Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.’ She apologized for it, but it’s out there,” Maher said.
“I see why they don’t get a hero’s welcome,” he added.
Let’s see Maher stand up to the Dems as “big and bad” as he was with Bush during his 9/11 “heroic stance”.
Bet he wilts and apologizes on his next show.

Bill Maher is a puzzle. He understands the issues with Islam perfectly well, and I think I remember him being pretty rational on the whole Me Too extravaganza, but he’s a typical lib on most other topics, and hates Trump like a snake hates a mongoose.
Much as I dislike Bill Maher, he has this annoying tendency of being right a small percentage of the time — which puts him ahead of most Leftists, who have the astonishing ability of being wrong about absolutely everything.
If Maher wasn’t such an arrogant, overbearing jerk, I could almost put him in my small ... very small ... file of “tolerable liberals,” with Alan Dershowitz, Camille Paglia, and a couple others.
The “boycott, divestment, sanctions” strategy takes over and really grips the minds of certain command-and-control types in this world.
The strategy does NOT promote peaceful relationships, and is in fact designed to INFLAME passions and desperation. It is the equivalent of one knight slapping another knight in the face with a glove, then throwing it down on the floor, an invitation to a one-on-one duel, one shall not come out alive.
