Every Democrat presidential nominee since 1984 went to law school (although Gore did not graduate). Every Democrat vice presidential nominee since 1976, except for Lloyd Bentsen, went to law school. Barack Obama was a lawyer. Michelle Obama was a lawyer. Hillary Clinton was a lawyer. Bill Clinton was a lawyer. John Edwards is a lawyer. Elizabeth Edwards was a lawyer. Look at leaders of the Democrat Party in Congress: Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer is a lawyer. Ex-Senator Harry Reid is a lawyer.
The Republican Party is different:
President Trump is a businessman. President Bush 1 and 2 were businessmen. Vice President Cheney is a businessman. President Eisenhower was a 5 star General Officer.
The leaders of the Republican Revolution:
Newt Gingrich was a history professor. Tom Delay was an exterminator. Dick Armey was an economist. Ex-House Minority Leader Boehner was a plastic manufacturer. The former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is a heart surgeon
Who was the last Republican president who was a lawyer?
Gerald Ford, who left office 31 years ago.
The Republican Party is made up of real people doing real work, who are often the targets of lawyers.
The Democrat Party is made up of lawyers. Democrats mock and scorn men who create wealth, like Trump, Bush and Cheney, or who heal the sick like Frist, or who immerse themselves in history like Gingrich. The Lawyers Party sees these sorts of people, who provide goods and services that people want, as the enemies of America ..
And, so we have seen the procession of official enemies, in the eyes of the Lawyers Party, grow. Against whom do Hillary and Obama rail?....Pharmaceutical companies, oil companies, hospitals, manufacturers, fast food restaurant chains, large retail businesses, bankers, and anyone producing anything of value in our nation. This is the natural consequence of viewing everything through the eyes of lawyers. Lawyers seek to have new laws passed, they seek to win lawsuits, they press appellate courts to overturn precedent, and lawyers always parse language to favor their side.
Confined to the narrow practice of law, that is fine. But it is an awful way to govern a great nation. When politicians, as lawyers, begin to view some Americans as clients and other Americans as opposing parties, then the role of the legal system in our life becomes all-consuming. Some Americans become adverse parties of our very government. We are not all litigants in some vast social class-action suit. We are citizens of a republic that promises us a great deal of freedom from laws, from courts, and from lawyers.
Today, we are drowning in laws; we are contorted by judicial decisions; we are driven to distraction by omnipresent lawyers in all parts of our once private lives. America has a place for laws and lawyers, but that place is modest and reasonable, not vast and unchecked. When the most important decision for our next president is whom he will appoint to the Supreme Court, the role of lawyers and the law in America is too big. When House Democrats sue America in order to hamstring our efforts to learn what our enemies are planning to do to us, then the role of litigation in America has become crushing.
Perhaps Americans will understand that change cannot be brought to our nation by those lawyers who already largely dictate American society and business. Perhaps Americans will see that hope does not come from the mouths of lawyers but from personal dreams nourished by hard work. Perhaps Americans will embrace the truth that more lawyers with more power will only make our problems worse.
The United States has 5% of the world's population and 66% of the world's lawyers! Tort (Legal) reform legislation has been introduced in congress several times in the last several years to limit punitive damages in ridiculous lawsuits such as spilling hot coffee on yourself and suing the establishment that sold it to you and also to limit punitive damages in huge medical malpractice lawsuits. This legislation has continually been blocked from even being voted on by the Democrat Party.
And when you see that 97% of the political contributions from the American Trial Lawyers Association go to the Democrat Party , then you realize who is responsible for our medical and product costs being so high only they can afford them using our money. And it should anger you.
Shakespeare got it right: “First, lets kill all the lawyers!”
Misused or not, it is pertinent!
Socialism is Legal Plunder - Bastiat
They’ve made a mess of this fabulous republic.
The places where useless men to find employment: law firms and legislatures.
The GOP is complicit in exploding the US debt. I definitely recall W spending like a drunken sailor on foreign wars and even Trump doesn’t seem to be doing much on paying down our deficit. Since the economy is doing so well now is the time for him to start reducing the deficit. Meanwhile most GOP Congresscritters pay lip service to a balanced budget while heading straight to the pork barrel.
“The Republican Party is made up of real people doing real work, who are often the targets of lawyers.”
Please. Stop with the “Republicans Bad, Democrats Good” simplicities. The GOP bigwigs gave us open borders and endless wars. They still resent Trump for trying to change the party’s course.
Oh, and the last GOP nominee before Trump — Romney — went to Harvard Law School. Trump’s daughter is in law school and his sister is a federal judge. There are plenty of lawyers in the GOP
And a lawyer without a briefcase, but elected to The House or Senate or Presidency, or appointed to head an agency, can steal more than a thousand regular lawyers with briefcases.
Yes, accomplices are many. WELCOME ABOARD!
Yep. The ooze from the judicial branch into control over the other two branches, violating separation of powers.
That includes the various so-called Top Cops who control the Alphabet Soupy Swamp.
Bill Barr was put through law school by the CIA, as I understand it. Ex-CIA Bush 41 made him AG.
Others may trust him as they choose. I consider him a Deep State creature like the rest.
Why would a lawyer want to steal over a thousand armed men?
Romney didnt go to the Harvard School to become a lawyer, which he didnt. The JDMBA from Harvard University Program of Study offer students guidance on structuring an academic program that will give them exposure to the law, policy, theory, and practice in their chosen areas of focus. His was business and he has a BA in English from BYU. He has never received a law degree nor attempted one. Calling that a law study to become an attorney is like saying a student plays intramural basketball because he wants to play in the NBA. His first major position in business was with Bain and Company and he was instrumental as CEO for Bain to assist the creation of Bain Capitol. No lawyer, no law degree.
Yes there are many lawyers in the GOP just like every other group in the US. But none that are president or run for it, like I said.
No law degree
A JD is a law degree. Romneys got one. BTW His Bain capital also destroyed a lot of jobs.
Anyway, this is a simplistic argument. The Bush-Cheney Administration was a disaster, even though neither was a lawyer. And the fact they were Republicans doesnt make their record any less bad, the recession/depression they left any less deep, the unending wars they started any less destructive and expensive, and the immigration policy any less open. Im tired of being told you must always applaud the Republicans like Im a toddler. GOP has given us some stinkers, even without law degrees (and sometimes - Mitt - with them)
“Some men rob you with a six gun, and some men rob you with a fountain pen.”
Not that I like Romney, but didn’t Bain Capital take companies that had money problems and carve them up like turkeys and sell the profitable bits, and let the other parts fallow?
There is a market for that but the reason they are up for sale to Bain is they are about to fail, or will be sold for what ever reason, and Bain is just the undertaker because their value whole is too low for a regular buyer.
It is not a law degree that can be used as an attorney. He cannot practice law, nor can he be accepted by a bar anywhere in the US as a practicing lawyer. It is a knowledge only degree for the endeavors he chooses.
From their website:
Harvard Law School (HLS) and Harvard Business School (HBS) offer a joint degree program in law and business. Completion of the program leads to the degrees of Juris Doctor and Master in Business Administration (JD/MBA). The program is designed for students who have the background that will enable them to handle the rigorous and concentrated course of study. It allows students to gain expertise in both the law and general management practices. The program prepares students for careers in which an understanding of both legal and business principles is essential.
It is not a practicing law degree. He is not an attorney and never studied to be one. I have a degree in accounting. I also had to study business law to become an accountant. I am not, and never have been, a lawyer nor studied for the bar. Same thing as taking biology doesn’t make you a doctor.
Some men rob you with a six gun, and some men rob you with a fountain pen.
Problem is one’s legal and one isn’t. And many times it makes the “taken” wonder which one is which.
“Why would a lawyer want to steal over a thousand armed men?”
Because their employers are not worried about unarmed ones.
