A U.S. District Court judge in New York who was presiding over a lawsuit involving a wealthy, Clinton-connected financier and sex offender died Sunday at the age of 96. Robert W. Sweet died at his home in Ketchum, Idaho, while on vacation, The New York Times reported. He was appointed by President Jimmy Carter in 1978. Politico reported that Sweet was presiding over the lawsuit that followed what many saw as an unusual plea deal for Jeffrey Epstein. Alexander Acosta, the current U.S. Secretary of Labor, negotiated what critics called a sweetheart, potentially corrupt plea deal with Jeffrey Epstein when he was the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida. The arrangement required Epstein to pay restitution to dozens of victims, but offered a variety of unusual concessions as part of a non-prosecution agreement.

Was he added to the "arkancide" list too?
Well, he was 96 ...
He was 96. Or so the media CLAIMS. ;>)
Why would you choose someone in his nineties to preside over a case?
At 96, I think we can’t rule out natural causes, though how many other 90-somethings are presiding over cases?
I can’t say, but maybe he should be given an honorable mention until it is conclusively proven different.
Nobody younger wanted to touch it.
And he was only 96! Struck down in the prime of his life...
What causes a person to continue on in such a job at the age of 96? His home life must be really boring.
KEEPER OF THE ARKANCIDE SCROLLS
Makes no sense. A guy that age probably made frequent use of the "I'm so old I don't buy green bananas any more!" joke. Why would he be expected to last through a prolonged trial?
From his wiki page he looked like a good solid judge with a civil libertarian bent. He was semi-retired and I hope this wasn’t arkencide, because losing this guy is definitely a loss.
Does he qualify for the CBC? (Clinton Body count)
I’m sure his clerks did all the work; he was likely selected because he was compliant, and the rulings would go the way the government wanted. (MOO)
Maybe they got his age backwards?
With a pillow over his face, by any chance?
death of the judge is an automatic mistrial...FWIW
The ONLY reason to stay on the bench at that age is to exact a political agenda.
He’s definitely not the kind of judge they would like to face because his rulings indicate he was honest.
Did he die of, “old age” while stuffed into a body bag with his hands zip tied behind his back?
He was a civil libertarian in the good sense. We would be fortunate to have more judges like he was. The problem we have is that the ones who get promoted are often promoted because they can be counted on to rule a certain was. Think John Robert’s.
