Universal Pictures has canceled plans to release the Blumhouse thriller The Hunt following the mass shootings last month in El Paso and Dayton.
While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film, the statement, posted on the films website, read. We stand bu our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release the film.
Additionally, an individual with knowledge of the situation told TheWrap, This was a decision that the studio came to with The Hunt filmmaking team. It was a tough call for the company, but studio leadership, led by Donna Langley, agreed that this film could wait.
Previously, Universal had halted the marketing campaign for the horror film out of sensitivity on the countrys recent shooting tragedies.
Playing on divides in the current political climate, The Hunt follows 12 conservatives who discover they have been kidnapped and brought to The Manor, a hunting ground where liberal billionaires pay top dollar to hunt them for sport. Hilary Swank plays the founder of The Manor, while Betty Gilpin plays the leader of the hunted, as they fight back against their would-be killers. Craig Zobel directs, with Emma Roberts, Justin Hartley and Ike Barinholtz also starring. A trailer for the film, which shows a gunfight in an open field and Gilpins character killing two of the Manors patrons with a shotgun, was released on July 30. An ad that was set to air on ESPN over the weekend was pulled after an attack on a Walmart in El Paso that killed 22 people.
Can you imagine a follow-up for this movie at the theme park?
They’re Dubbing it so Trump supporters are the Hunters ,LOL
With the backlash, they suddenly became afraid of a “live-action” sequel.
From the looks of the trailer (which I know trailers can be misleading sometimes) the conservatives are the “good guys” while the liberals seemed like elitist psychopaths.
Too soon??
It is weird what Hollyweird thinks is funny these days.
So the liberals were playing themselves in the film?
They apparently are running teaser ads on the NBC sport channel for Giants games.
They’ll reshoot it with a bunch of feral Ted Nugent lookalikes hunting down a pack of black trannies and release it under Joy Reid Produtions.
Its really annoying. Hollywood needs to get more creative and any conservatives of talent need to just start making stuff. Doesnt even have to be political for crying out loud. In fact dont have it be! Just not crap!
“...the conservatives are the good guys while the liberals seemed like elitist psychopaths....”
In other words... Art imitates life... or Reality.
Exactly, this would have been good for conservatives.
Anyone know how much Universal lost by cancelling the release?
bump
Canceled for now. They may just shelve it and release it at a later time or in a different way.
They may also just release it to video.

Dont know. But read it cost about $15M to make. I assure you that whenever it is released, and it will eventually be released, it will make a bunch of money. Curiosity factor will be sky high...
