Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said this week that Republicans would push to repeal ObamaCare if they win back the House and President Trump is reelected in 2020.
"If we can get the House back and keep our majority in the Senate, and President Trump wins reelection, I can promise you not only are we going to repeal ObamaCare, we're going to do it in a smart way where South Carolina will be the biggest winner," Graham said in an interview with a South Carolina radio station.
"We've got to remind people that we're not for ObamaCare."
Graham's repeal bill, introduced in 2017, would eliminate major sections of ObamaCare, including subsidies that help people buy insurance and the Medicaid expansion that covers low-income adults in 36 states and Washington, D.C.
The bill would essentially shift money from states like California that expanded Medicaid to states that didn't, like South Carolina. Such a move could force some states to cut health care services and reduce eligibility.
"If we could get the money back to the states, Democratic policies would be tested against our policies," Graham said.
"This scares the hell out of the Democrats. This is what 2020 is about."
Previous GOP attempts to repeal ObamaCare were a driving force in Democrats taking back the House in 2018 and the issue has also reemerged among 2020 Democratic presidential hopefuls debating the best approach to health care.
Former Vice President Joe Biden has emphasized the need to shore up ObamaCare from attempts by Republicans and the Trump administration to dismantle the law, while several of his progressive rivals have focused on pushing policies such as "Medicare for All."
Democrats ran on protecting ObamaCare during the 2018 midterms and accused Republicans of trying to take away protections for those with pre-existing conditions.
House and Senate Democrats plan to follow the same playbook in 2020, as the Trump administration supports a lawsuit that seeks to overturn the entirety of ObamaCare.
As such, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has veered away from talking about repealing ObamaCare, instead focusing on smaller health care fixes.
Graham on Tuesday touted his bill, which would allow states to opt out of consumers protections, like those that prevent insurers from charging people with pre-existing conditions more for coverage.
Senate leaders decided in 2017 not to put Graham's repeal bill up for a vote because it didn't have enough support. Conservatives fumed that Republicans failed to repeal ObamaCare despite having a majority in both houses with a Republican president.
GOP Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), Rand Paul (Ky.) and the late Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) all opposed the bill. But Graham insists it would be different next time.
"We were one vote short in the Senate," Graham said.
Oh BS. Or maybe...
Right after Linda gets his Red Flag bill passed.
Traitor.
(Scratching his head), “That sounds familiar.”
How many years has Gramnasty been in politics. What has he done to fix anything except favors for his buddy Juan McCain. We have heard promises for a very long time. Trump is the only one to have kept his!

Thanks yesthatjallen.
Mr. Graham, the GOP has ZERO CREDIBILITY on this. Your party is a bunch of stinking liars.
************
Quite frankly, the GOP has no credibility on anything. I agree, they are a bunch of stinking, deceitful liars. The whole lot of them.
Graham has also failed to do a single thing to investigate the treasonous bastards who plotted against Trump. He is a deceitful POS.
Because THIS TIME they really, really mean it!
I am all for the Republicans retaking the House and holding on to the Senate. It is the only chance of getting anything done that the far left does not want. Also, I don’t want President Trump to spend his second term having to respond to dozens of democrat congressional committees trying to “investigate” everything he says and does.
But based on recent experience, my expectations for a Republican controlled Congress are very low. Maybe they will surprise me.
Either way, it would be better than the alternative of a democrat controlled Congress. Have you listened to democrats lately?
He sure talks like McCain.
You’re right, they don’t.
They are nothing more than a pack of liars.
Oh, does he double pinky swear this time? That changes everything!
Lots of critical comments about Graham from this. Whatever one thinks of Graham, you can be damn sure that if Repubs don’t win back the House and hold Senate and Presidency, Obamacare will NOT be repealed.
I love you too Lindsey and your check is in the mail.
Believe we have been down this path a few times before.
Please quit with the promises. We will know it is done, when it is done. However, not many of “us” are holding our breaths’.
It won’t be repealed either way. They already proved that to us when we handed them EVERY BRANCH OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ON A PLATTER.
Once again the ostrich attitude of sticking ones head in the sand will leave us with a lame duck president at best, and a socialist America at worst.
Vote conservative in primaries. Vote R in the general.
That’s pretty weak logic. Just because someone doesn’t believe this obvious lie by a proven liar does not mean they are not going to vote Republican.
I don’t know that its a lie or not. I just know a good alternative to giving Trump the tools he needs (a repub congress) doesn’t exist. So we can bitch about the past all we want, so long as we stop shooting ourselves in the foot every election.
We’ve already chased that moldy carrot too many times.
Ummm~... Haven’t they promised this for the last 47 election Cycles?
