Full title: Yet another shooting at a gun-free zone: El Paso shooting at Cielo Vista Mall is apparently in a place that banned permitted concealed handguns
The Simon Mall chain is well known for banning permitted concealed handguns in Texas.
“Possession of any weapon at Simon malls, whether concealed or displayed openly, is in violation of mall policy. This policy is intended first and foremost to maintain a safe, secure and comfortable environment at our malls, which has always been our top priority, and to avoid any situation that could potentially place at risk the safety of our shoppers and employees.
Simon malls are private property, and like virtually every other facility in the community that is accessible by the public, ownership/management has the right to prohibit the possession of weapons, both displayed or concealed, other than licensed weapons carried by law enforcement personnel.

Everyone in Texas knows that they have to the proper posting for the bans to have legal effect. The statements indicate that the mall was properly posted at the entrances. Following the attacks in Gilroy, California or Virginia Beach, this is yet another attack where people were banned from being able to protect themselves. Here is a copy of the mall’s code of conduct.

A wonderful; thing that needs to happen ASAP, because it’s the ONLY thing that will immediately reduce these horrific atrocities.
If the above is the sign posted at the mall entrance, it means nothing. Texas requires a 30.06 notice (named after the penal code section), that has specific requirements. The sign posted doesnt cut it.
Also, even with a 30.06 notice in place, you can still carry your weapon. The only thing they can do is tell you to leave. If you refuse, you can be issued a ticket for misdemeanor tresspass. No arrest involved.
Moral of the story.....Carry your weapon and the hell with the mall.

Never go to a mall unarmed no matter what their stupid signs say. It is not illegal. The most they can do is ask you to leave if they find out you are carrying. Now maybe some idiot will panic and call the cops, but Simon Malls can’t make anything illegal.
Chez Boots doesn’t do malls anymore and barely goes to a grocery.
Years ago now, I was getting tires and happened to see a prison guard and struck up a conversation. She said SHE didn’t go to malls anymore because of the (usually) gang members who ran a scam on unsuspecting people, with one person asking questions while another slid out from under a vehicle with a switchblade to cut the shopper’s ankles/leg, and a third person coming along behind in the getaway vehicle. This was well known at her work.
So, I quit going to malls and practically yell at family who do.
