The Senate today confirmed Brian Buescher, President Trumps nominee to the U.S. District Court in Nebraska. Readers may recall that Senate Democrats attacked Buescher for his membership in the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic service organization. I wrote about this here.
Sen. Kamala Harris was one of the Senators who led the charge against Buescher during his Committee hearing. His other main adversary was Sen. Mazie Hirono, one of the Senates dimmest members.
Harris isnt dim, but shes a hard core leftist and an incorrigible opportunist. Thus, her suggestion that Bueschers membership in the Knights of Columbus makes him unfit to serve as a federal judge was over-determined.
The argument was that the Knights of Columbus takes the extreme position that a marriage is the union of a man and a woman. But, as Ramesh Ponnuru pointed out at the time, Buescher belongs to two other organizations that consider marriage to be the union of a man and woman (and that also are anti-abortion, another of the Knights extreme positions). The two organizations are the Catholic Church and the Republican Party.
Do Hirono and Harris think that Bueschers Catholicism raises problems with his nomination? I assume they do, to the extent that Buescher takes Catholic doctrine seriously.
Buescher declined Hironos invitation to resign from the Knights of Columbia as a condition of being confirmed. The Senate confirmed him anyway.
The vote was 51-40. No Democrat voted to confirm Buescher. Harris and the other Senate Democrats running for president didnt vote.
But Harris is already on record that Bueschers membership in a venerable Catholic service organization undermines his fitness for the judiciary. If the Democrats nominate Harris, she should be called on to defend this stance, which likely wont sit well with serious Catholics.
I’m guessing that they would have had no problem voting for him if he belonged to either the ‘knights of satan’ or the Communist Party USA.
Godless Communists Balk But ....
This Judge would NOT have been confirmed if he had been nominated for a California District Court Judgeship. This is because, while use of the blue slip process to allow Senators to effectively veto nominees for Appeals Court Judgeships has been done away with, LINDSEY GRAHAM STILL ALLOWS SENATORS TO USE THE BLUE SLIP TO STOP DISTRICT COURT NOMINEES FOR THEIR STATE. Graham needs to end this outrage that allows DemocRAT Senators from states such as California and New York to veto Trumps nominees they want to stop.
Kamala Harris was one of the Senators who led the charge against Buescher during his Committee hearing. His other main adversary was Sen. Mazie Hirono, one of the Senates dimmest members.

Thanks for the info!
I am a proud 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and a former Honor Guard Commander.
Flimsey Grahamnesty still has a lot of people fooled.
He is still playing for Team Uniparty.
Wonder if they would have found JFK unfit for office for being Roman Catholic, or the murderer Ted Kennedy, who the dims refered to as the “Lion of the senate”. Proof once again that they are hypocrites.
All these years, I thought they referred to Teddy Kennedy as "Liar of the Senate". Which would have been a lot closer to his life's role, between not cheating on Law School exams at Harvard and not causing a former RFK supporter (possibly in more ways than one) to die in his car.
They would probably reject JFK for both his religion and because of his conservative Democrat beliefs are now consider as by them as “right wing fascist” at best and thus totally against their current political ideology.
I am happy to be a KOC member and an enemy of the Left.
CRAZY HIRONO.
Too bad about the new regalia.
