California may be on the verge of eliminating single-family zoning statewide. This is huge. And its a sign of how quickly the politics around housing and land use have shifted in just the last year.
...
Senate Bill 50 San Francisco Sen. Scott Wieners bill to allow denser, taller housing ... Single-family houses could be converted to four-unit buildings, by right, anywhere in the state.
That is, a property owner could subdivide or remodel a house to turn it into four apartments. Or a developer could build a fourplex on a vacant single-family lot.
...
Lets just pause on the fact that a bipartisan group of lawmakers voted in favor of a bill that would allow apartments pretty much anywhere in California.
...
Last year, the Minneapolis City Council voted to eliminate single-family zoning and instead allow duplexes and triplexes to be built on lots reserved for one house. The city enacted the policy so it would be easier to build affordable, denser communities, but also to help integrate neighborhoods that are still segregated as a result of discriminatory housing practices dating back decades. Strict single-family zoning was often adopted as a way to segregate neighborhoods ..
Planners in Charlotte, N.C., are looking to eliminate single-family zoning
...
Seattle and Portland have considered rezoning single-family lots or allowing up to four-unit buildings in single-family neighborhoods. One Oregon lawmaker proposed allowing fourplexes on single-family lots in any city in the state with more than 10,000 residents.
Even Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is warming to the idea. He told Times reporter Liam Dillon earlier this month that the city was looking at the Minneapolis model of allowing triplexes on single-family lots as a way to build more housing

Two states have passed laws outlying it but otherwise the premise and work is nationwide.
It is about rewilding half the country, mother Earth and gaiea, climate change, mass transit, stack and pack housing.
In time this will become more clear to you.
“Turning California into East Berlin, one law at a time! Glad Ive lived here when I have, because the future isnt bright for CA”!
The Conservatives need to vacate that place so Calif. can build their version of the Berlin Wall.
Thought it would take a little longer for the democrats to turn California into Detroit, but they are almost done destroying it.
The idea of having the Wall go right up the eastern border of Cali is sounding better all the time.
That is an uncalled for comment that besmirches millions of decent Conservative Californians who deserve a whole lot better from you! You owe me, and all of them an apology! It is really way, way past time for this kind of petty invective to stop. Either ALL of the decent people of this country stick together, no matter where they hand their hats, or we are finished as a country! Man up!
See post 85! You should apologize too!
I see your point and understand.
The taxes per occupant will plummet. They’ll have more people to educate, police, medivac, etc, but they will not get proportionally more taxes.
Idiots.
You’ve been around liberals much too long, but good luck to you anyway.
I had an acquantance who was a child in Shanghai when the communists took over China, and her family fled. She returned in the early 90s to see her home - there were 6 families living in it.
You mean Wiener is openly QUEER?
A rump ranger?
A butt buddy?
A faggot?
A Homo?
I had hopes in the late 80’s that all the QUEERS would die of AIDS, an ANALLY INFLICTED DEATH SENTENCE.
That photo brings to mind the first home we purchased. I recently looked it up on Bing maps. It is in Northern Virginia...a bedroom community of Washington DC. Purchased new in 1975, a 4 bedroom 2.5 bath split level on a cul-de-sac. Now it is a 9 bedroom 3.5 bath with 6 cars and a pickup truck on the part of the lot that was visible from the street. It started out an integrated, multi-cultural neighborhood, now is 57% Hispanic.
Thanks for the offer.
Do what you want on your own property, I do draw the line at storing toxic waste or spent nuclear fuel rods.
Of course my only neighbors for 3 miles are the US Forest Service and the BLM.
The city dwellers are F#CKED.
California is falling behind in the race to the nut house. Oregon has already passed that law.
Thank you.
#42 My sister says some muslims moved into a house next to hers in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. It was a house that was bought by them and now 12 live there and she says it is not always the same 12. They come and go.
“Youve been around liberals much too long, but good luck to you anyway.”
Actually, that’s an untrue statement. And since I see you’re in Colorado, with Chickenpooper and Polis, you’re no stranger to liberals either. I don’t wish CO any problems, but you’ve “imported” a lot of liberal trash in the last few years, and contrary to the nonsense that gets purveyed, they didn’t all come from CA. But it doesn’t matter, Liberalism is “flourishing” everywhere. No state is immune, and nothing positive happens from the cross border trash talk. I don’t need “luck” to get along. But what we all need is a Federal Government to EFFECTIVELY DEAL with the Liberal lawlessness everywhere. And we need to re-elect Donald Trump to keep things going our way. Everyone trashed the 9th Circuit, but just look at what Trump has done there. Thanks to his appointments, it’s down to 16 RAT and 12 Good Guys ( not $hit ball Republicans, like the Booshes gave us), one more RAT vacancy and two old Republicans ( Bea and Bybee, which will solidify two non-RAT seats. Slick Willie was able to appoint nine judges, Obola seven. Trump will be at eight by the end of the year and he’s only in his first term. And Colorado has somewhat the same problem as CA. The bulk or your counties are RED. The problem you have (like we do) is that your BLUE counties have all the people.
With Mueller effecitvely today behind us, I look for Trump to be an even more effective President. Now replacing judges is the stumbling block to a better country. And BTW, my neighbors are not liberals.
Well put!
Dems are saying they are the ones so concerned about peoples mental health.
They all know the studies showing more violence and problems the more you pack people into smaller shared spaces.
Yet they want to rack and stack people.
They care nothing about people, other than to control them, and use them to create problems they can then do extreme things to “solve”.
