The Senate confirmed former Army Lt. Col. Mark Esper as Secretary of Defense Tuesday, making him the first permanent Pentagon boss since James Mattis resigned last December.
Esper, who served 10 years on active duty and 11 years in the National Guard and Army Reserve, was Acting Secretary before his nomination, and Patrick Shanahan had been Acting Secretary prior to that.
The vote was not close, with the Senate confirming Esper by a vote of 90-8. The no votes included 2020 Democratic presidential candidates Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar and Elizabeth Warren.

Surprised vote. The 2020 candidates need to explain why they are so out-of-step with their colleagues.
That was a given.
I was shocked when I heard Demonic-Rat, Senator Tim Kaine, VA wax glowingly about him.
This makes me nervous - every cabinet confirmation that had a large bipartisan Senate vote confirmation has seemed to be a complete swamp creature.
There was a vote today? One of my staffers must have voted. I'm out here partying, I mean running for President.
Trump wins again.
Finally, getting a government agent with psychic abilities into office is a good thing! (ESPer) /s
Assholes of the world unite...you have nothing to loose but your sanity...which is already gone.
The vote demonstrates pretty clearly that these presidential candidates are well out of the mainstream, even that of their own party.
Everything I’ve read about Esper convinces me he will be a good DecDef. In any case, he will surely be head and shoulders above anybody Obozo put in the office.
“I was shocked when I heard Demonic-Rat, Senator Tim Kaine, VA wax glowingly about him.”
The clown did? Now Im concerned..90-8 is a big difference. My spidey sense is sorta wacky on this one...
Even the Dems had sense enough not to start a fight over this.
A Lt Col???? Are we scraping the bottom of the officer barrel??
I don’t think we have had a Sec Defense who also had a military background and had so lite a one as this one.
As old as they are I’d take a Cheney or Rumsfield over this guy.
Thanks conservative98. Who were the other three no votes?
A Lt. Col.? Seems to be a very low rank for such a position. And a top corporate lobbyist at that.

For that title, I’d take Col. Allen West instead.
The socialist cabal voted against a strong American defense.
Antidefense is Anti America
He was last Secretary of the Army.
Perhaps a Lt. Col. is best qualified considering hussein44 gutted the military top leadership and replaced with so many SJW snowflakes.
Wow a former Lt Col! He gives me hope that I too can be the Secretary of Defense one day :-)
