NEW YORK — Accused pedophile Jeffrey Epstein kept a fake passport issued by a foreign country in the name of another person in a safe, along with piles of cash and dozens of diamonds, a prosecutor revealed Monday during a hearing on whether the sex offender should be granted bail.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Alex Rossmiller said the feds had learned of the contents of the safe hours before the hearing in Manhattan Federal Court. He cited the passport issued in the 1980s, which listed a residence in Saudi Arabia, as another example of why Epstein should remain locked up while awaiting trial for sex trafficking of underage girls.

We’re talking about the Federal statute that was amended in 2006. NY statute could well be an illegal ex post facto law.

US or Saudi, at 30 years old it’s an irrelevant museum piece. By using it, the U. S. Attorney shows he’s grasping at straws and doubts the strength of his own case.
Epstein will probably get bond no matter what the evidence against him is. He will then either disappear or expire -or both
There is a reason he kept that passport in a safe even though expired.
I would deny him bail based on the passport. But I want him to get bail with conditions attached so he can stay alive.

Where’s the new claim that’s based on conduct that either: (1) allegedly occurred after the Federal statute of limitations was amended in 2006 or (2) isn’t barred by the 2008 NPA? If there is, the whole problem would be solved for the U. S. Attorney, unless the claim is based on illegally seized evidence. This whole case is beginning to stink because there’s no indication that the U. S. Attorney has come up with anything that doesn’t run afoul of one of the two noted criteria.
Then why is an ‘expired’ passport acceptable for I-9 confirmations?
Identity theft...unless it turns out his birth certificate was issues in Saudi Arabia, too, in the same name.
Back in the 60-90’s, it was very common to have a Israeli passport and then a non-Israeli passport.
Trying to get into Israel with a passport stamped from a Muslim country would get you denied entrance to Israel.
Same thing would happen if you wanted to for instance enter Jordan with a Israeli stamped passport.
This was VERY common as I nearly did it back in ‘98 to visit Jordan-Petra.

Getting caught trying to skip bail would further expose accomplices, so it’s really more convenient if he stops breathing . If he gets to stay in jail, he will likely end up like Jim McDougal.
