Just yesterday we were discussing what I’m still holding out hope turns out to be one of the most widespread pranks in history. Nearly 400,000 people have signed on to a crackpot scheme on Facebook to “storm” Area 51, the top-secret military base located near Groom Lake in Nevada. The guy who actually started it is assuring the authorities it was a joke (and begging not to be arrested) but his followers don’t all seem to agree. The situation is being taken seriously enough that the Air Force actually responded to a question about it. While not coming out and specifically threating to burn all of these people to cinders if they cross the fence, they sure sounded like they were implying it. The following was offered up by Air Force spokeswoman Laura McAndrews. (The Hill)
Air Force spokeswoman Laura McAndrews declined to elaborate on specific details.
However, she did issue a warning to those who may be serious about a plan to infiltrate the Nevada Air Force base.
“[Area 51] is an open training range for the U.S. Air Force, and we would discourage anyone from trying to come into the area where we train American armed forces,” McAndrews told the paper.
“The U.S. Air Force always stands ready to protect America and its assets,” she added.
The Air Force stands ready to protect America and its assets. And you can rest assured they have plenty of assets out at Groom Lake. Whether it’s the next generation of stealth fighters being developed or an interstellar cell tower so ET can phone home, they don’t allow anyone in. The other assets they have on hand include both Apache choppers and fighter jets.
Depending on how you read the spokeswoman’s rather veiled comments, it’s not hard to imagine that she’s hinting at precisely what I was suggesting yesterday. If one or two people show up and try to sneak in, odds are some guys in an SUV will show up, tackle you, detain you for questioning for a few days and then let you go. But if more people than can be tackled all swarm the place at once from multiple entry points, particularly if it looks like some of them will make it to the airstrip, what do you think they’re going to do?
Do you really think they wouldn’t give the order to just start ripping the crowd up with weapons? That’s an awfully big assumption to literally bet your life on.
Our Air Force and other military officers take the same oath as most elected officials. They will protect against “all enemies, foreign and domestic. Don’t become one of those domestic enemies. You won’t like how it ends.
For those who are really curious about what Area 51 looks like but don’t want to wind up as a grease stain in the middle of the desert, here’s one of the most recent videos anyone managed to take of the base. A guy and his son scaled their way up to the top of Tikaboo Peak, from which Area 51 can be seen at a great distance. You’re not supposed to climb that mountain, but they managed to not get caught. The guy dragged up a video camera with an extremely powerful zoom lens and start filming. Spoiler alert: He didn’t see any aliens.
AREA 51 FROM TIKABOO PEAK PART 1 (THE BASE IS VERY ACTIVE)
Sounds like a good opportunity to test preparedness for a Zombie Attack.
Gunships and carpet bombing. It is the only real answer. Really, think about it for a moment.
The government is consistent.
On the border we take aliens in, and our troops do nothing. We protect and defend aliens.
In Area 51, where aliens are purportedly stored, along with other black projects, the government will defend the perimeter, coincidentally again protecting the aliens! /S
(Yeah, different type of aliens, I know)
Have you ever been Microwaved ? LOL
The only way to be sure is to nuke it from orbit.
Where’s that .gif when I need it.
From the stuff I’ve read and heard, if there ever was alien tech (or even aliens themselves) at Groom Lake, they are both decades gone.
I agree. It is a very bad idea.
They would not find anything interesting, just do a lot of damage and a lot of people would get injured.
The organizers should come to their senses and cancel it.
All currently serving and former Freepers who are/were in the military know there are numerous bases and defense installations were it expressly posted that any trespassing will be met with immediate deadly force and without warning. These people must be stupid, suicidal or both.
Why should the people headed to area 51 be worried? The government/military isn’t doing anything about foreigners storming our Southern border.
If only the national government took our borders as seriously as they do a military reservation.
That’s really what needs to happen. Trillions yearly for “National Defense”, but it doesn’t appear there’s much defending going on.
They’ll feel up Gramma at the airport though. How can anyone take these people seriously?
Have you ever been Microwaved ? LOL

You can defeat microwave weapons by keeping an unpopped bag of microwave popcorn in one pocket and a large roll of heavy duty tinfoil in another.
Once the popcorn starts popping, thereby notifying you that you’re being targeted by microwave energy, stop, drop and roll yourself up in that tinfoil.
The tinfoil will reflect all that microwave energy back to the emitter catching it on fire just like when you put metal things in your microwave at home!
It’s worked every time I’ve tried it...
Or I think it will, since I’ve never tried it.
If you come across an area that has a big fence and a sign that tells you to stay out or you will be shot, I suggest that you stay out. The big red letters saying use of deadly force authorized means exactly what it says.
I have no-doubt they would. They might try less lethal force, but the Air Force is (and all services are from what I can tell) serious about "protection level 1" assets. Typically use of deadly force is not only authorized, it is expected. I have personally asked security forces personnel about this and they have no qualms about spilling blood in the line of duty. None. If they did, they wouldn't be there.
I agree, a few people show up and do something stupid, they'll get arrested. Oh, and arrested on federal land, where there might be some question about "national security" means you don't get a phone call, you don't get a lawyer. You are held indefinitely at the discretion of the base commander. Now yes, he/she will eventually have to answer to higher command re: holding prisoners, but... As someone else pointed out, you could be there for days, even a few weeks while they pry into every facet of your background, friends, family, etc. to see just why you were after top secret information. Oh, you weren't? Well that's not what it looked like from their side of the fence...
If a few hundred push through into the base, I would expect a line of vehicles to greet them. Next step might be for them to pull back (they can afford to trade some space here), and have a chopper make a pass and unload a mini gun, chewing up a line a few yards in front of them. Me, a rope of 30 cal would certainly dissuade me but then, I'm not a loony lib...
If they approach buildings or base personnel and are not responding to commands, I expect limited deadly force to be applied to the leading echelon. I doubt the fools that show up have a death wish, and I know the Air Force doesn't want the PR black eye. But they will not shrink from their duty to protect the US. That means protecting whatever expert personnel and technology may be present. They will not let it be compromised.
The Desert don't stain. Amazing how a couple of days of intense UV just cleans everything up and dries it out out. Anything big gets cleaned up by the vultures and coyotes.
No US president will authorize the use of lethal force on border crosses who are unarmed. No honorable military commander would give the order.
The president should send another 25,000 troops to the border till the wall is completed. Use less-than-lethal force to stop them from setting foot in the US. If the Mexicans don’t do it, tell them we may have soldier setting foot inside Mexico temporarily to prevent unauthorized entry into our country.
I was one of 25 correctional officers who stopped 220 inmates from rushing a fence by using triple-chasers, gas, and stun guns. And i can cite examples with fewer people. Many prisons have experience doing the same thing. Correctional agencies are experienced doing this all the time.
Before the show started we got to wander around a bit and there was writing on the tarmac all over the place.
The one thing I recall clearly were the several things I saw "Out Of Bounds:Lethal Force Authorized".
I didn't go beyond those lines.
Any one who grew up in the military knows they are serious. I am an Air Force brat. I still have trouble stepping over a red line on pavement and I am 69.
