Tropical storm Barry has finally earned its name. The storm is drifting W in the central Gulf of Mexico. The tropical system is somewhat unusual because the low pressure system was originally over Georgia before drifting into the GOM.
The New Orleans area has been inundated with heavy rain with flooding over the past several days, unrelated to the current tropical storm.

And, to think, if we just paid another 50% in taxes, you would only see one correct line on this map!

"Guessing you mean Gulf Shores MS? Pleasant gusty breezes when the storm is headed away from your location. Not so much when the storm track is pointing in your direction. ;o)" Nah.
Gulf Shores, Alabama.
A big hang out spot for me in my youth.

"Ive lived in Texas my whole life but never heard the Gulf referred to as GOM?" What suprises me is when I listen to Rush Limbaugh on a Mississippi station from (Biloxi, I think) and the announcer on the local news there pronounces gulf as GOLF.

How much will it cost the rest of us to bail out NOLA this time?

Were headed to the panhandle for a week of camping. Our route puts us in the Jackson/Hattiesburg/Mobile area tomorrow, early afternoon, towing a 5th wheel. Im freaking out while my husband thinks itll be some wind, some rain, no biggie. 😑

You bet! How are y’all doing down there? Wish I could visit again, but no more gigs; I’ve completely retired.
Maybe once I build up some cash I’ll come visit in the Winter. I do want to go all the way to Islamorada and fish with Rodguy911 and Patriotspride.
If so, you know I’ll hit the Fla West coast, too!

So the projected path is right up the swollen Mississippi? I wonder if the river will finally have its way and move the mouth westward.

But I doubt the ones on the river itself will. The ones built by Uncle Bubba’s construction company and cheated on the spec are most likely to fail.

Could be catastrophic rain for the Mississippi valley. We need the rain here in central Alabama, and it looks like the westerly track may pull the rain west of us - which is bad for my lawn and the farmers, but will make my 11 year old granddaughter happy as she has a pool party planned for her birthday Saturday at our house.
So, my hope is westerly landfall Saturday but then take the big curve into Alabama on Sunday that a few of the models show. That way she gets her party and we get needed rain afterward.

Central AL, here, too. The kids/grandkids are in the pool right now. I want to get the yard work as done as possible, but I’m looking forward to the temperature getting turned down here for a few days, too. Been beastly lately.

You should definitely plan a retirement swing through FL during Spring Training. The most wonderful time of the year.
