The FBI on Wednesday arrested two former senior officials who served in the administration of Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló, leading the chairman of the House committee that oversees Puerto Rico to call for the governor to step down.
The arrests also spurred concerns on Capitol Hill about the billions of dollars in aid that Congress has approved for the island.
The federal indictment says the former officials illegally directed federal funding to politically connected contractors. The arrests come about a month after Congress approved a controversial disaster aid bill that earmarked additional funding for Puerto Ricos recovery from Hurricane Maria in 2017. The aid was tied up in part because President Trump called island officials incompetent or corrupt.
Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.), chairman of the Natural Resources Committee that oversees Puerto Rico, called on Rosselló to resign amid the ongoing federal investigation.
Weve crossed that crucible now, said Grijalva, who later reiterated on Twitter that he supports Rosselló's resignation. The restoration of accountability is so key going forward.

No s__t, Sherlock...
Im pretty sure its racist to pursue political corruption in Puerto Rico.
Money+Politician=Corruption
Why doesn’t PR open its borders to refugees or even white liberals? You would think they would be open to inclusion and diversity but all I ever hear out of PR pols is hatred for America.
Lets all recite the Puerto Rican Politicians Pledge.....
Its never so screwed up that we cant steal a little more.
Give BILLIONS to gubmit officials and you get corruption? In PUERTO RICO?
Say it ain’t so.
Take a look at their website
Looks like a lefty operation. I bet an audit of these SOBs would expose numerous crimes.
They just now figured this out? Bulls$#t
Ignorance on parade!
Unintentional mixed-metaphor ALERT!
:: Weve crossed that crucible now, said Grijalva ::
A relative audits a company down there and he says the whole island is corrupt and the “audit” is nothing but a joke.
Weren’t they all supposed to be starving after the last climate change blew them off the planet?
The fat folks are going to hate jailhouse chow.
I live “down here” and no, the whole island is not corrupt. It’s the political class we are held hostage by that’s chronically corrupt. And the problem is that both major political parties are equally corrupt, and they just trade places every four years.
What we need here is sort of a denazification program like they did with Germany after the war. No one who had ever held an active role in either the PPD or PNP parties should be able to hold public office or get close to public funds, ever. Not them, their children or their grandchildren.
Great way to go on a diet.
——Weve crossed that crucible now, ——
The intended statement was we’ve crossed that Rubicon
Looks like the corrupt perps haven’t been cutting back on the tacos.
I have a local friend whose family is from Puerto Rico and where he still has relatives & visits there often enough each year. On more than one occasion he has said Puerto Rico’s biggest problem is corruption. We may not always agree on U.S, domestic politics, but that hasn’t changed how he views what is wrong in Puerto Rico.
