What ruined the movie version for me was the casting of Randall Flagg.

He looked like one of the Beach Boys.

I always thought crazy Martin Sheen was born for that role, already being insane and evil.

I also would have liked Christopher Walken, Nick Cage or Matthew McConaughey, as he did him fairly well in The Dark Tower.

Cage actually had the most charmingly sinister, mood-swinging manic energy for it.
