“But it is centered near or at China Lake. You would think everything out there is battened down (to the best of their ability).”
I’ll bet it was like being inside a basketball.

65 miles from epicenter.shook hard. Having strong aftershocks constantly. A bit of news coverage is beginning to trickle in.
So far, no reports of damage or injuries.
A Summer NBA game in Las Vegas was postponed due to tremors.

By my count, weve felt 3 aftershocks in Vegas, this last one was the biggest.

I’m watching the CalTech Lady on live TV. She just looked at her system and mentioned a 5.7 after quake just happened and would be felt in LA in a few seconds...sure enough. It was very mild though.

That is a major quake, but its way out in the Mojave.Over 35,000 people live within 20 miles of the epicenter.

“That is awful shallow.”
That’s one reason why this one felt so much stronger than yesterday’s. The July 4 quake was 6 miles deep.
There may not be much left standing in Ridgecrest.

No unusual activity with the Dobermans?
I actually had my heels up on the coffee table at the time and would have been extra sensitive to any motion or buzzing/rumbling affecting the table, but nothing at all.
When the Easter earthquake of 2010 happened in northern Baja, I happened to be on the phone with my dad out in East County and suddenly got the warning of an earthquake and it took several seconds for the waves to make it up to me...it was so odd to get coming attractions of the parts of that quake which was so unusually longer in duration.
