The Alaska Railroad Corp. and Alberta Railway Development Corp. have agreed pursue a 1,500-mile rail connection, the Alaska Railroad's Board of Directors announced in a press release on Thursday.

The agreement calls for the two corporations to apply for right-of-way guaranteed under state law for a rail connection into Canada. It also calls for identifying work needed to upgrade existing facilities, bridges and track on the 512-mainline running from Seward to North Pole.

"In the lower states it takes Union Pacific 26-30 days to move a car from Houston to Sacramento..."

That optimistic estimate assumes they don't lose the car...

Looked for earlier links through comments I posted one which had a map of the projected route this would use posted much earlier that would add to this posting. But had no luck. One thing I found interesting was there no projected link with the White Pass Yukon RR out of Skagway.

that is a great trip. we are considering it.

a very close friend discovered a trove of letters written by a distant relative that surveyed much of that route extending all the way into Maryville. He wrote to his family often as the survey progressed

The Civil war broke out and the company went bankrupt and it was not built as planned

It was, my only complaint was that the lights could not be fully turned off in the vista dome at night due to stumble risks. I would have loved to star gaze across Manitoba.
