Chernobyl and Concentration Camps

I just finished watching the amazing HBO miniseries "Chernobyl." It's one of the finest series ever produced.

The biggest takeaway is how socialists and communists lie. It's in their DNA. They lie about everything. And those lies are often so absurd they get themselves in trouble.

When it came to Chernobyl, the Soviet communist propaganda machine lied about everything. Officials denied there was any problem in the first place. Then they denied it was a complete meltdown. They denied nearby towns had to be evacuated. They denied the KGB knew there was a potential problem long before it happened but hid the proof. They lie about the death count to this day. They say 31 died. Scientists say around 100,000 died.

Socialist policies always lead to disaster, misery and unimaginable poverty. But the socialists and communists in power always lie and blame others to cover it up.

Sound familiar? This is the entire modus operandi of the Democratic Party. Ever listen to Bernie Sanders? Or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez? Their form of socialism is "different." It's nothing like the socialism that murdered 100 million human beings. Even though Sanders' platform is almost the same as "The Communist Manifesto" by Karl Marx.

Barack Obama created the worst economy since the Great Depression. Economic growth was, by some measures, the worst in history. Yet, Democrats swear the economy was fantastic under Obama. How would they know? The whole Democratic electorate is on welfare, working a government job (no matter how incompetent they are) or living in their parents' basement.

Want proof? A new study out of Germany found that 92% of left-wing activists who were arrested for politically related offenses still lived with mommy and daddy. That means almost every Democrat protester and agitator you see screaming "Trump is a Nazi" and demanding cradle-to-grave welfare and free health care likely lives in mommy and daddy's basement, sucking their thumbs all day while playing video games.

These leftist losers demand electricity rates must skyrocket in the name of "climate change," but they've never paid an electric bill. They're probably still on their parents' Verizon cellphone plan. There's no illegal alien crisis, but they demand sanctuary cities and states. They claim it's "racist" to call it an invasion, even as 150,000 illegals pour through our border every month. That's as big of an invading force as the GIs who landed on D-Day. They scream about illegal children separated from parents, living on cold floors. But the photos they tweet out are all from when Obama was president.

AOC and her Marxist friends in Congress even claim Trump has "concentration camps" on the border. When faced with her lie, when condemned by Jewish organizations, AOC refused to apologize and turned down an offer to visit Auschwitz. Why let facts get in the way?

Remind you of anything? It's Chernobyl all over again. These awful lies will come back to haunt Democrats in 2020, just as the lies of Chernobyl brought down the evil Soviet empire.

There are a lot of bogus statistics about Chernobyl.

It’s like anyone who dies in Florida during a hurricane, are counted as “storm deaths” even though a yuge number of elderly with serious health problems live in Florida.

Deaths from cancer, heart attacks, car wrecks, or just old age are factored in to create the disaster hype. (hyperbole, somewhat)

The REAL disaster story of Chernobyl is the one that didn’t happen. (meltdown).

While Chernobyl was bad/serious, worst on record, it was NOT the “disaster” it has been portrayed to be.

Chernobyl TOURS!

“Explore the catastrophic impact of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster on a 3-day tour from Kiev. With an expert guide, journey into the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone around the nuclear plant and town of Pripyat, once home to the plant’s workers. Witness the abandoned streets and buildings; learn about the ‘self-settlers’ who have returned to local villages; view the Sarcophagus, the concrete structure built around the plant’s destroyed reactor number four; and learn about the accident and its aftermath. Two nights’ accommodation, daily breakfasts and dinners, transportation and guided tours included.”

“...actions taken to combat “climate change” pose an existential threat to life on earth...”

Absolutely !!! Greens are bad for the environment. They are inefficient and counter-productive. If you drive people to live with pot-bellied stoves, use wood for fuel, and forage for food and fuel you end up with a true catastrophe.

When I lived in El Salvador, a deforestation problem developed from people foraging wood to use for cooking. There was no need to use wood for heat. Yet still the few forests left were under assault from foragers.

At Catoosa Wildlife Management Area in Tennessee, I once drove through over a mile of thick smoke to reach my site. I was sure there was a forest fire but instead all that smoke was caused by a relatively few campfires and cooking grills. The atmospheric conditions were holding the smoke close to the ground. It could have been more awesome and even more choking if a larger population of people were burning “renewable” fuel.

One of my daughter’s high school teachers was from that area. She died from cancer while my daughter was still in high school. That was around 2009/2010. No doubt in my mind that the cancer was caused by her proximity to Chernobyl in her youth. She died in Arizona.

My wife is from Achevsk in the eastern Ukraine well away from Chernobyl. But she had a neighbor, a young man who worked on the aftermath containment, and came back sickly and mentally unstable. He died soon enough. Workers who constructed the sarcophagus were sacrificing their health to get the job done.

I heard it was almost identical to Stalin’s platform

You need to learn NOT take generalizations PERSONALLY. It’s not hard.

I NEVER claimed that you were one of them, nor did I say ALL scientists.

Beef is not water to mix that well. Also as much as I understand your disdain towards the Soviets it is supposed that some regular people have to do it and on a mass scale, not some looters stealing contaminated stereos and automobiles. Why would they?

To put it another way, when I (or pretty much anyone else here) say that “Democrats HATE this country”, do you really believe that I’m including my father who fought in WW2, always voted Democrat, and still votes Democrat? Do you really believe that I think my father now hates this country, based on my above statement?

In other words, we GENERALIZE here, or we wouldn’t even have workable forum.

I wonder if by mixing the irradiated meat with normal uncontaminated meat the Russians inadvertently extended the shelf life of the meat by several weeks. Irradiation will extend the shelf life of meat and perishable products and I wonder if the same held for the Chernobyl products?

The environs around Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) all show higher than allowed radiation readings but cancer rates in the ORNL region is no greater than other places. Even the dogs from the pound had higher than normal levels of radiation. I was an assistant to the pathologist that necropsied the last surviving animal, a donkey, from the Bikini Atoll detonations and it died of natural causes at the age of forty.

I’’ve seen reports of 4000 cases of childhood thyroid cancer, which would be expected to be the most common early cancer. BUT same reports showed only 7 cases were fatal!

It’s not just the Dems that lie, the entrenched bureaucracy (which is composed mostly of leftist and statists) are liars. There problem here is no one can vote them out.

I doubt .1 of 1% of viewers know enough about nuclear physics to gauge the accuracy of the series as to what happened and what the fallout truly was.

However, this was hands down the best illustration of the ills of socialism I have ever seen. It captured the darkness of the USSR. Having been to East Berlin a few times when I was young (with my father) I picked up on this darkness and coldness even as a kid.

Socialism is evil. State control is evil. Communism is evil. It is all built on lies. This series captured it in an impactful way and the acting was fantastic.

Those in control care only about power and keeping it

Yes, but it is even more evil than that. They view “themselves” as the state, not the people. This is when it becomes really bad because every decision (as illustrated in this show) is about them and not the people. The state becomes the “party” becomes the “party leaders” and the people are an afterthought - a vehicle to retain power.

Another Chernobyl lie is that when radioactive cattle from the affected area were slaughtered, instead of destroying the contaminated meat, the Soviets simply mixed it with clean meat to dilute the radiation before selling it.

Another lie is that the “Exclusion Zone” which was to keep the radioactive materials, especially irradiated metals, around the Chernobyl power plant safely enclosed within a border of a guarded perimeter for 100 years minimum. A documentary, “Chernobyl Cafe” reveals that is not the case. Ukrainian mobsters, in concert with the Ukrainian military guards, have been smuggling up to 800 tons of still radioactive proscribed scrap metal a day through the guarded access points, and shipped to steel smelters where it is mixed with un-contaminated iron and steel in Ukrain, and shipped to China, Korea, and Taiwan, where it winds up in cars, appliances, and other steel products. . . still radioactive.

This metal comes from buildings, abandoned in place military vehicles, land moving equipment used to bury the radioactive surface, and metal from road signs, lights, etc. They are stripping the area of anything they can haul away. In addition, people are moving back in.

One can buy a “vacation home” in Chernobyl” for the equivalent of a few hundred dollars, where one can live for up to 15 days per month, then rent it out for 15 days per month. Some farmers have moved back permanently. Employees of Chernobyl Cafe are allowed to work there the 15 days per month. On the other hand, in 2015, they were still working on the moveable catafalque that would be moved into position to entirely entomb the power-lantern for a couple of centuries. Workers building this huge construction were allowed to only have a single eight hour shift once per month, and then return a month later to repeat their eight hours, it is so radioactive in the area.

This documentary is available on Amazon Prime, I believe.

For the record, I don’t believe the ‘scientists’ either. I’ve seen enough documentaries where they simply can’t find much evidence of people dying from the fallout.

The 100,000 figure I’ve seen include people who still have yet to die a shortened lifespan due to exposure to radiation from the Chernobyl accident, so it actually may be true. I think it may be more in the nature of a statistical life expectancy reduction than a documented number of deaths that have already occurred. Where would one stop counting? I haven’t got a clue.

The deaths associated with the Hiroshima and Nagasaki A-bombs were kept counting long after the actual explosions, but many of those who are now attributed to the bombing are in their nineties. Are they actual victims of the bombs? Would these elderly people have lived a year longer, five years longer, ten, but for the bombs? Who knows.

I suspect that 100,000 figure is very like that. I know they’re included a few deaths all the way to Iceland from fall out cancer rates that but for the Chernobyl accident, they claim. would not have developed.

A Russian told me the Chernobyl story, along with several other stories about Russia. And it is totally possible to dilute radioactivity to background levels. The principle of dilution works exactly the same for any substance.

That is true. . . But it doesn’t work for those workers collecting the radioactive scrap. That is still dangerous work risking levels of exposure that could shorten their lives. Once the scrap is mixed, and monitored, the levels can be brought down to close to background levels, but not to match background levels. There will still be some elevation above background, depending on the ratios of contaminated to un-contaminated materials.

The question is whether the smelters are even bothering to monitor the mix.

“Then they denied it was a complete meltdown.”

Actually they PREVENTED the complete “meltdown”. The “accident” was an EXPLOSION!

It was both. . . The explosion broke the control rods, preventing them from being re-inserted, but then the fuel and other materials DID melt down. What it did not do was melt through the containment slab below the reactor due to the efforts of the coal miners and the installment of large heat exchangers below the slab to cool the melted mass later called “The Elephant’s Food”.

The worker in the picture above did indeed die. . . Only a two minute exposure to the Elephant’s Foot was fatal and still is today, although the exposure time is now up to ten minutes.

By the way, this is an example of another Socialist lie. The soviets said that the photos of the Elephant’s Foot were all taken by robot and no workers ever were in the sub basement room below the reactor. There are several photos showing this worker in the room.

This image of the Elephant’s Food was reportedly taken ten years post
accident. Fatal exposure rate was then an estimated 5 minutes.
