Meanwhile, cheap labor stooges in the Senate, are pushing for this bill to sail through without a vote, which would lift ALL H1B visa caps for India and China. Sponsors include Tom Cotton.

The Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act is unfair for American workers.

From comments about something else, on another site:

Mutual benefit is the entire reason capitalism is a thing.

If the benefit isn't mutual, whatever's going on isn't capitalism.

I can't believe there's a G.K. Chesterton quote on this.

An inventor can advance step by step in the construction of an airplane even if he is only experimenting with sticks and scraps of metal in his own backyard. [...] If he has made a mistake in his calculations, the airplane will correct it by crashing to the ground.

Who made the decision to hire cheap labor — highly paid executives? Blame them, if anyone.

Most corporations (in fact all of them) believe your life’s value is less than $9 to them and their shareholders.

If another 737 falls like a toy in the sky, I’m betting Boeing might not survive this fiasco.

It actually looks like the damn thing was programed to crash. Pilots fought the computer to the very end.

...

No, it wasn’t programmed to crash.

The root cause of both crashes was a bad alpha vane sensor.

The pilots didn’t fight the computer. The problem was the pilots trusted the computer when it was obviously malfunctioning, rather than taking control of the situation.

Holding on to the trim wheel would have kept the plane from crashing.

Switching to the good alpha vane sensor would have kept the plane from crashing.

Not retracting the flaps with the stick shaker activated would have kept the plane from crashing.

Reducing the throttles would have kept the plane from crashing.

Electronically trimming the stabilizer before disabling the trim system would have kept the plane from crashing.

“Boeing nickel and dimed by hiring cheap labor from India whom have no experience in aerospace.”

Blame Boeing all you want but they aren’t the only ones. For example, the government signed contracts back in the 90s hiring EEs for less than $4 per hour. And bragged about how great that was. Companies were paying a reasonable rate for forty hours but requiring over 80 hours per week in billed time. The engineers supervising these contracts were unhappy but the contracting officers negotiating the contracts won huge awards.

Nope. I ain't buying it. This is an easy excuse to de-bunk. The cheaper the engineer the more intense management scrutiny.

Yes I do take this personally because I had a 20+ year career as a cheap (no degree) engineer. I designed and built automation in the automotive fastener business, and at one point after successfully completing a year long project with Dow-Corning & Ford Motors everyone thought I was going to be hired by Ford. But that didn't happen.

Right around that same time somebody sued some other big corporation because some employee didn't have a degree. I moved on and had a long, happy and interesting career without ever working with Ford Motors again.

Not unlike aviators, in engineering you'll encounter those who think they're s*** doesn't stink, but very few who are comparing their hourly wage to the quality of their work.

But they're from India! Nope. Boeing is responsible and the dog ate my homework ain't going to cut it.

The flight crew who flew the :ion Air crash airplane on the previous flight had the same problem, over-road the system, and continued on the flight with no problems. It was possible to override the system. People keep missing that fact.

There was zero radioactive release at Three Mile Island.

That has killed companies. Schlitz comes to mind as one that went cheaper and lost.

Present. This is a poorly-written article that tends to make you believe that flight-control software was written by recent college graduates. That the 737 is a 50-year-old outdated airplane. That Boeing is run by non-engineers whose only concern is money. I worked there as an electrical engineer for 32 years. Cannot think of one time where money came into a discussion about sound engineering. Boeing did make self-admitted bad decisions on too much out-sourcing, but the ultimate responsibility for flight safety is a joint effort between Boeing and the FAA. Safety is number 1 at Boeing, regardless of what you might read in the press. Over 40,000 people die per year in car accidents. During a recent 9-year stretch, ONE person died in the US in a commercial airplane accident. Why? Because safety has to be number 1 - for any aircraft manufacturer. Boeing is still a great company and will survive and thrive.

An additional point. I heard one domestic commercial pilot say that in the US commercial pilots use the automatic features as a backup. The pilot assumes the primary responsibility. In some other countries it is the opposite.

“”” All design functions were compartmentalized so you did not have a global sense of how the device was suppose to work, just your portion. “””

Funny that you used the word “global”.

There’s a major disconnect between various departments and entities. I cuss out china products all the time, especially tools. It’s so damn obvious that whoever designs some tools has never held a tool in their life but hey, it looks cool hanging on the shelf in it’s blister pack.

Automobiles too. Whoever designs them has probably never so much as changed a tire. Ford Triton V8 has the 8 individual coils .... jammed underneath the fuel rails.

Good ole Henry Ford was the inventor of breaking things down into smaller, simpler tasks which was good for speed but companies these days have taken things too far and they have no appreciation of the different aptitudes needed for different tasks.

The health care/medical profession is the same way. Once upon a time there were doctors and nurses. Now there’s a hundred different titles. My wife works at a retirement home. She’s been a Med Tech Level 1, is working on CNA and after that CMT. All three of those titles give medicine which is a tiny part of her day. It’s a matter of different types and strengths of meds they’re allowed to give.

Just like the fedgov elite. Corporate elite think they’re smart enough to manage every aspect from an office. They want nothing to do with the worker bees and think that all worker bees are interchangeable. Just a bunch of warm bodies. They loathe every one of us.

Next thing will be AI robots replacing humans and they think that will fix everything. For some reason, I think it will backfire on them. I don’t know how. Just a feeling. Something that bots lack.

Accountants should never be put in charge of any company that is not an accounting firm. They have no vision for the actual business...
<<<

It's what happens when one takes the Bible out of the Boardroom - you become unmoored

Great comments. I love a good paradox, seeing that Joseph was the first Jewish accountant. He had the vision. It went "downhill" from there.

It was a long while before Moses arrived to command the flight out of Egypt.

What did Moses need for the trip? The bones of Joseph, which was his essential framework: his vision, his dreams..

Rachel even named Joseph "He will add". He being God, because when she saw an accountant for a son, she knew to expect another one. Rachel is the quintessential mother of all Israel, after all. The jokes write themselves.
