Stick with it through the practice chanter stage. I'm a keyboard player mostly now (harpsichord) who can play a little bluegrass guitar, it's a whole different part of your brain.

I do wish though that pipe bands would quit pandering to the masses by playing non-pipe tunes like AG, the Star Wars theme, and the Marine Corps Hymn. There are many beautiful pipe tunes that nobody ever hears because they are playing that "stuff".

I traveled there when young -- so glad I did. One of the most beautiful places in the world. My travel mates and I were driving in the off season, pretty much alone for miles in the highlands on a misty morning, and as we rounded a bend, there stood a lone bagpiper in regalia by the side of the road, skirling, the sound echoing off the hillsides and nearby loch. Sent chills! Never forgotten after these many years.
