Not economically viable due to over regulation. Probably being taxed out of existence as well.

because the plant is no longer economically viable in a state where wind and solar supply a growing share of inexpensive electricity.

Bull!- scraped because of constant harassment and lawsuits from environmental wackos and Democrat legislators.

Several of my students graduated with degrees in power engineering. They all work for Siemens. Obviously they are biased but they suggested that GE made serious mistakes with the turbines before putting them on the market, including inadequate testing. This may also be part of the problem.

This has nothing to do with subsidized wind and solar. It has to do with the fact that it is a crappy, inefficient power plant. You have to read deep into the article to find that out.

Just going the way the libs planned it. Drive out nuclear, hydro and fossil fuel and rely on wind and solar. But solar panels run $1100 or so, so the poor will not be able to afford “clean energy” which means the government (those of us who do pay taxes) will have to subsidize the conversion for the poor while demanding solar in new construction and, soon, mandatory retrofit for existing housing and businesses. Behold the power of the Democratic party government control in the country’s biggest nanny state.

CA would change its tune if Arizona cut it off from Palo Verde.

The company is set to lose up to $2 billion in cash this year.

Why am I not surprised?

where wind and solar supply a growing share of inexpensive electricity.??????? !!!

The price here in California is double then anywhere else. The politicians do not care as they get everything paid for by the taxpayers.

If those strokes want to run off windmills and monocrystalline silicon let ‘em.

There is not enough land in California for all wind and solar they’ll need to keep going

That is because wind and solar are highly subsidized.

Without the requirement to buy “green energy credits”, maybe it would still be usable?

Wind and solar power is not dependable. We will have power shortages like a third world. And California has moved in the third world category a long time ago just a question of time before we see it going to hell.

It seems to me that the plant is not good because they want something that doesn’t put out power all day, or when the wind is blowing, but snaps to during times when solar and wind are not working. The problem to me seems to be that they should be running it at all times, instead of relying on wind and solar, which take more fossil fuel energy to build and sustain, than simply using coal, NG, or hydro. Stupid people stupid stupid stupid people.

Wait until the brownouts and blackouts begin in earnest.

Should be a real hoot to watch folks whine.

“How did this happen?”

Yeah, let them wonder...
