eneral Electric Co said on Friday it plans to demolish a large power plant it owns in California this year after only one-third of its useful life because the plant is no longer economically viable in a state where wind and solar supply a growing share of inexpensive electricity.

G
Not economically viable due to over regulation. Probably being taxed out of existence as well.
BIG mistake.
Bull!- scraped because of constant harassment and lawsuits from environmental wackos and Democrat legislators.
“...inexpensive electricity....” Oh yeah. Cheap wind and solar.
Several of my students graduated with degrees in power engineering. They all work for Siemens. Obviously they are biased but they suggested that GE made serious mistakes with the turbines before putting them on the market, including inadequate testing. This may also be part of the problem.
This has nothing to do with subsidized wind and solar. It has to do with the fact that it is a crappy, inefficient power plant. You have to read deep into the article to find that out.
Ought to be able to defuel it. Then reduce manning and wait . Few people = Low cost.
BIG mistake.
Why , I think they should shut down everything and go 100% wind and solar ,LOL
Just going the way the libs planned it. Drive out nuclear, hydro and fossil fuel and rely on wind and solar. But solar panels run $1100 or so, so the poor will not be able to afford “clean energy” which means the government (those of us who do pay taxes) will have to subsidize the conversion for the poor while demanding solar in new construction and, soon, mandatory retrofit for existing housing and businesses. Behold the power of the Democratic party government control in the country’s biggest nanny state.

Yep. The first paragraph is Fake News by Reuters.

Closing the plant will eliminate about 23 jobs, the filing said.
Running 24/7 with three (8 Hr) shifts, equals 21 slots...
A backup guy and a supervisor?
Might be difficult to thin out that crew?
yes, they are regulated and taxed to death....
CA would change its tune if Arizona cut it off from Palo Verde.
Indeed. Note the line about the need for fast-start generation due to the fluctuations of wind and solar. This plant didn’t fit the bill.
Road to 3rd world sh*tholedom almost complete.
More brown outs coming....
Why am I not surprised?
where wind and solar supply a growing share of inexpensive electricity.??????? !!!
The price here in California is double then anywhere else. The politicians do not care as they get everything paid for by the taxpayers.
