In a surprise move, a Cook County judge ordered the appointment of a special prosecutor Friday to investigate the controversial decision to drop all charges against Jussie Smollett. Judge Michael Toomin ruled that States Attorney Kim Foxx had the right to withdraw from the prosecution but could not legally appoint her top deputy to handle the case in her place.
The special prosecutor could end up charging Smollett, Toomin said, and if the investigation uncovers suspicion of wrongdoing by others, additional charges could be brought. Toomin made the decision even though the countys inspector generals office is already investigating the decision by States Attorney Kim Foxxs office to look into the controversy. Foxx herself, however, agreed to that probe.

Investigating the investigation of the investigation?
It’s turtles all the way down.
Wow!.....Surprise surprise.
“Foxx herself, however, agreed to that probe.”
Inane statement as there’s not a dam# thing she can agree or not to concerning the IG’s office.
I hear muledeer is available. He could use his sidekick comey. Bet they don’t find proof of innocence, but nothing they could take to a grand jury. So says Karnack. :-)
The first sentence in the article:
“A Cook County judge on Friday ordered the surprise appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate the short-lived prosecution of Jussie Smollett, saying it may have been legally invalid from the very beginning”
The judge who’s ordering the investigation thinks the PROSECUTION “may have been legally invalid from the very beginning”.
Can you spell, “cover up”?
Yes, but that statement can be taken to mean several different things.
Special Prosecutor is where cases go to die.
“Judge orders special prosecutor be appointed to look into Jussie Smollett controversy”
I would think you’d look into the case and whether it was a hoax, etc. and not the controversy. F-— the controversy.
I took it to mean that Foxx recusing herself (legal)but appointing her underling to prosecute the case was illegal under existing law thus making the entire prosecution under those circumstances “illegal”
A judge can hire a prosecutor ??
Prolly eric holder
THE JUDGE WHO KNOWS ABOUT GOING BAD
Opening lines of the article:
"Back in the days when Judge Michael P. Toomin sat on the bench in Cook County before he became a presiding judge working out of an administrative office reporters noted the things that defined his courtroom.
There were, behind him, the framed copies of the Magna Carta, the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.
There were United States and Marine Corps flags flanking him.
It’s not a “controversy”. It’s a fake “hate crime” designed to start race riots. Smollett needs to go to prison.
There seems to be something amiss about these prosecutors who want to promote diversity and restorative justice rather than simply upholding their oaths and prosecuting criminals. Take a look at another prosecutor (Marilyn Hite Ross) in another Illinois county:
Here in Illinois the Special Prosecutor must come from another County. So the Cook County Machine wont be able to control whos appointed. Whether or not theyll be able to get it referred to another Dem controlled County remains to be seen.
Nevertheless that sound you hear is a whole bunch of sphincter muscles clamping shut in the Cook County justice system. Right now theyre so tight if you shoved a lump of coal in there a week later a diamond would drop out.

10:05 AM PT — Kim Foxx responded to the order, saying, “I respectfully disagree with the court’s conclusion that, in the absence of any conflict, the appointment of a special prosecutor is required.”
She continued, “As always, I remain committed to transparency, justice, and the public safety of the communities we serve.”
