Oregon Republican senators have left the Capitol and scattered in various directions outside the state in order to avoid being rounded up by troopers for a high-profile climate bill vote scheduled today.
Reached just after 7 a.m. Thursday, Sen. Cliff Bentz of Ontario said he was on his way out of the state. "In a few moments, I will not be in Oregon, said Bentz, who spent most of Wednesday meeting with Gov. Kate Browns staff in an effort to negotiate changes to the carbon cap-and-trade plan, House Bill 2020.

Good. That's the only option remaining to Republicans.

Dems did that a few years ago and the news media thought it was a brilliant move ... lets see what they think of this move.

Their votes don’t matter. They’re only needed for a quorum.

Don’t have the numbers. It’s a catastrophic bill, and it would pass.

If they stay for a vote, the bill passes. If they leave, the Senate cannot form a quorum to hold the vote.
It’s the only way to stop stupid.

I think it deprives Dems of quorum to even vote

So, if they aren’t present can those in attendance vote on it anyway? In any case, this ‘hole’ climalarky thing is out of hand.

I loathe the tactic as I stupidly believe in reasoned and rationale debate to come to a quorum - but the Dems arent interested in fair policy and already used this tactic for their ends so - alls fair in love and war!

I think a quorum is required to even have the vote.

Nope. In this case, leaving the state is the only way to kill this evil dead.

Yeah...and if it was the bill that banned almost all firearms in Oregon, and allowed the purchase of only 20 rounds a month, and on and on.... Should they show up and be props for that one, too?

If they vote no, they lose.
If they leave, I suspect there is no qurom and thus no vote

It’s called the Wisconsin defense. I believe it was 2011 when it happened.
