Trump says 'Iran made a very big mistake' after drone downing

President Donald Trump and his aides were confronting dramatically increased tensions with Iran on Thursday after the downing of a US drone near the Persian Gulf.

"Iran made a very big mistake!" the President tweeted mid-morning as he and his national security officials huddled to weigh possible responses.

The ominous — if vague — message came after Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it had shot down an "intruding American spy drone" after it entered into the country's territory Thursday.

They need to lose some assets.

They need to be hobbled.

They don’t want their air space violated? Close it down to all traffic.

Saying something threatening (although vague) and doing nothing would appear to weaken his position.

Well it's only been a "short period of time" since the incident, but you have lived down to your screen name.

Grumpy ain't the half of it.

Credit where credit is due- Lindsey Graham was asked by a left wing reporter a little while ago, “Was the President being provocative with this tweet?”

His response?

“No- Iran was being provocative by shooting down an American drone in international skies as well as trying to blow up a Japanese tanker when the president of Japan was trying to negotiate with iran..

The US will not strike Iran over an unmanned drone.

Not a chance.

They already shot one down in Yemen without so much as an official announcement by the US.

But Trump wants them SPUN UP at Defcon 1 to increase the pressure on them. Indefinitely.

That’s why he amorphously alludes to “something”, without ruling anything out.

Our Navy may be jamming Iranian radar and with a jumpy Iranian operator, could be trouble.

The Navy doesn’t turn on the drone transponders when near borders like our USAF and Army do, not a good practice.

We are operating on razor thin margins here in a very small battle space.

We have coalition allies.

I would hope to give Iran a dose of their own medicine in the form of an untraceable covert destruction within the Iranian borders. The covert act would be conducted by coalition forces always present in Iran.

Theory is Iran feels weakened and unstable due to more and more people there wanting what they see on Western TV and movies such as human rights, freedom, and a chance for a date with a Kardashian or Kate Upton lookalike.

The women there want a Mazda Miata they can drive to their college classes, their hijab free hair in the latest style from Glamour as they flirt with guys.

So tightlipped, humorless religious tyrants over them need to unite them all in hatred of Trump in a war .

Their American traitors called “Dems” support the Iranians all the way.

No delbert. That was in Lebanon. Ships can pass through Iranian territorial waters on the surface under international treaties regarding navigating straits. That does not include the airspace above.
You can have a merchantman on the surface legally transiting Iranian waters by right. The Drone above it might be illegally in Iranian airspace.

Nice casus belli excuse though. Because most people are to simple minded to understand it and just grunt “go team”.

According to reports, that U.S. “drone” Iran shot down over international waters had an estimated value of 100 MILLION DOLLARS!

I am sure President Trump’s “measured response” will take that fact into strong consideration when the fun begins.

First, in areas narrower than 24 miles, Iran doesn’t automatically get 12 miles and everyone else gets whatever remains. The boundaries are settled by treaties and international law, and clear to all concerned. Second, most of the area is much wider than 24 miles. Having spent a not insignificant portion of my life standing watch in CIC in Aegis Cruisers and Destroyers, I can tell you that “Hot Dog Red” mistakes (entering enemy airspace) are extremely rare. The MQ-4 is a major asset, and there is no way we are going to fly it into Iran Airspace. They are far too easy to see and shoot down. The US Navy statement said it was 20 miles from Iran, and it appears we have video from a ship showing the downing. I can also tell you, we will have data from our ships in the area, as we are recording everything on our radars and data-links 24/7, not to mention the data from the drone operators. We are going to have to respond to this. Fortunately no one was killed, so maybe we can keep it that way. But it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Trump takes out the SAM site responsible, or more.

” as well as trying to blow up a Japanese tanker when the president of Japan was trying to negotiate with iran..”

Think that one through. The leader of Japan made his first visit to Iran in 40 years. He is there being typical polite Japanese and saying polite diplomatic things. So they chose THEN to attack his ship.

We are being played. This is probably a Sunni operation.

“I can tell you that “Hot Dog Red” mistakes (entering enemy airspace) are extremely rare”

Mistakes yes, “on purpose” entries not so rare. There have been thousands of those conducted by us for the last 70 years. And in this case, you send a drone overhead into Iranian airspace... if it get shot down, you have a flying USS Maine incident.

Also its 21 miles wide. The entire strait is territorial water of Oman or Iran. And to traverse the strait, you do pass through Iranian waters in some lanes.
