Roy Moore to announce plans for Alabama senate race Thursday

Former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore is set to announce his plans for the 2020 Alabama senate race on Thursday at 2 p.m. at The Ballroom in Montgomery.

Moore lost the U.S. Senate race in 2017 amid allegations of sexual misconduct with teenagers. Moore denied the allegations. President Donald Trump last month tweeted that Moore “cannot win” and said Republicans need to retake the seat in the once reliable red state. Democratic Sen. Doug Jones currently holds the position.

The event is open to invited guests and credentialed press.

I've been keeping up with politics for a long time. There comes a point when a "preference cascade" occurs, and after that it is virtually impossible to change people's minds.

Thinking there were people capable of changing their minds in the last two weeks of the election is just naive.

From what I recall reading, Moore didn't campaign on the advice of various political experts advising him. They didn't believe it would help him, because the other side would show up with ambush characters (as they attempted to do on several occasions at his rallies) and the media headlines would be worse than if he did nothing.

I used to do these same ambush tactics for our side. My group and I would show up at opposition campaign events and proceed to humiliate the Democrat candidate. They were quite successful, and there is not much that can be done to counteract them.

The Democrats had a hit team of people who were going to show up at public attended Moore rallies, and accuse him loudly of raping and molesting young girls.

How do you think the optics of Moore getting blindsided in this way would have worked out for his campaign?

The news people would gleefully run the video of these democrat hit squad bastards making loud and perverted accusations against him, and Moore would have stumbled and stuttered to be so confronted.

Have you ever been involved in a political campaign? Or more specifically, have you ever been involved in a mean nasty dirty tricks style political campaign?

Well I have, and we won, and we kicked @$$, and the Democrat candidate was so rattled, he never came back to my state, and chose to instead remain in Washington DC as a lobbyist.

Last two weeks would have done nothing beneficial for Moore. The contest was on television.

And yes, it seemed like months and months for those of us who were keeping up with the events on a daily basis.

Just like reading your crap.

Moore was projected to win by 28 points in one poll before all these fake accusations popped up.

Moore still lead consistently in the polls all through November and up to just before the election. Link In no poll did he ever lead by 28 points.

That is your pat response when I post solid facts that you wish to claim are opinions.

It is a solid fact that the 14th amendment did not have the intent of making f@ggot marriage legal.

It is also a solid fact that the 14th amendment did not have the intent of banning the "ten commandments" from state owned property.

You just want to disagree because you want to support your position that Moore was thrown out of office for good reason.

Well they weren't good reasons. He was thrown out of office because the other coward bastards of the Alabama judiciary wouldn't stand up to arrogant Federal judges trying to force made up bullsh*t law down the throats of the people of Alabama.

Moore would fight. The other judges just wanted to roll over. They all should have instead fought back.

Don't care about your link. I was keeping up with it at the time, and I saw a poll that was showing a 28 point lead for Moore before the lying bitches were weaponized by the Washington Post sh*tbag reporter Stephanie McCrummen.

The fact remains, Moore was *WAY* ahead before the lying accusations against him came out and were carried 24-7 for months and months of biased "news" coverage.

(MONTGOMERY, Ala.) —
Alabama Republican Roy Moore will announce Thursday whether he will
make another run for U.S. Senate after failing to win the seat two years a
go amid sexual misconduct accusations.

Three people with direct knowledge of Moore’s thinking say they expect him
to jump into the 2020 race. They requested anonymity to speak before Moore’s
announcement and noted the former judge has been unpredictable and could
decide at the last minute not to run.

Moore left home 685,000 Rs in 2018. Just one year earlier, Shelby won by 685,000.

Yes, and in 2016 the very popular Shelby backstabbed Moore the weekend before the election by saying he was going to do a write-in vote. Given that Moore only lost by 26,000 votes, my guess is he would have won if not for the various GOP betrayals like Shelby’s.

My sense is the Alabama Republican voters who stayed home did it mainly because they thought it was safe to do so. They were going to have their cake and eat it too by avoiding the unsavoriness of voting for Moore yet benefiting from seeing him elected. His election was inevitable since it was against the laws of nature for Alabama to elect a Democrat, except that it wasn’t. Thus red Alabama shockingly found itself with Senator Jones.

I seriously doubt Republican voters are going to make that mistake again. They’ll hold their nose and vote for Moore this time if they have to.

Also, the Democrats were extremely clever in 2016. They kept their massive GOTV effort mostly under wraps so as not to rile up the snoozing and complacent Republican electorate. They’re not going to be able to sneak up like that twice in a row.

I’m not real big on Moore but it won’t surprise me if he gets the nomination. And if he does, I’m pretty confident he would win.

That is your pat response when I post solid facts that you wish to claim are opinions.

You're welcome. Though the "solid facts" part is open for discussion.

It is a solid fact that the 14th amendment did not have the intent of making f@ggot marriage legal.

Opinion duly noted.

It is also a solid fact that the 14th amendment did not have the intent of banning the "ten commandments" from state owned property.

The Supreme Court has disagreed with your opinion in numerous decisions of their own. Stone v. Graham ruled against posting the 10 Commandments on 1st Amendment grounds. McCreary County, Kentucky v. American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky (125 S.Ct. 2722, 2005) also struck it down on 1st Amendment grounds. Not sure where you manage to find it a 14th Amendment issue.

You just want to disagree because you want to support your position that Moore was thrown out of office for good reason.

He was, as the state of Alabama found.

Moore would fight.

And lose. Later he would run for office. And lose. He's nothing if not consistent.

Then you should have no problem identifying the source of that poll result?

The fact remains, Moore was *WAY* ahead before the lying accusations against him came out and were carried 24-7 for months and months of biased "news" coverage.

Your talent for exaggeration knows no bounds.

Opinion duly noted.

Absolute fact once again being claimed to be "opinion."

The Supreme Court has disagreed with your opinion in numerous decisions of their own.

So? Did you miss the part where I said Roosevelt and Truman wrecked the courts by 16 years of lunatic judge appointments?

What the court says may make something "the law!" but it does not makes something the truth.

Do you not grasp the distinction between true and legal? They are supposed to be the same, but there has been wide divergence since all the Roosevelt appointments.

He was, as the state of Alabama found.

To them, a "good reason" was because he was rocking their boat. Now you may consider a power block protecting it's own interests as a justification for administering the law to it's benefit, but I do not. I am more idealistic about the law, and I believe it's authority emerges from the consent of the governed, and clearly the "governed" did not consent to any of the bullsh*t the Federal court was trying to shove down Alabama's throat.

This is why Moore was leading by 28% in the special election. The people of Alabama wanted someone who would tell the lying federal bitches to go F*** themselves!

And lose.

Against the massive onslaught of a multi trillion dollar lie spreading system known as the "news" services in conjunction with backstabbing establishment Republicans.

I don't fault anyone for losing against so much power. This is what you expect to happen when that sort of force is arrayed against you.

Later he would run for office. And lose.

How did he get to be Alabama Supreme Court chief Justice again? Oh, that's right. He *WON* an election, and if I recall properly, he got more votes than did Richard Shelby when that bastard ran for office and won.

Why would you think that? Do *YOU* keep track of every poll in an election of which you are interested? I certainly don't. I note it at the time, and move on. It obviously didn't stay there, but it did indicate the degree of support that Moore had prior to the lies coming out.

Clearly Moore was ahead prior to the lies coming out. And you want to argue that it wasn't by that much? Okay, fine, how much ahead do you want to claim he was before the lies came out?

*You* go look up the various polls and wade through them to find the maximum amount he was ahead. I've got other things I would rather do than that. I'm not the one that needs convincing because I remember what was happening at the time.

As a former judge, one would think Moore would have a working knowledge of what lawyers to hire and which ones to avoid.

This news puzzles me: https://www.al.com/news/huntsville/2019/06/roy-moores-lawyer-trenton-garmon-arrested-on-drug-charges.html

Snip: Former Senate candidate Roy Moore’s attorney was arrested Wednesday night for charges of driving under the influence and for possessing drugs. Trenton Roger Garmon, 39, was booked into the Etowah County Jail around 8 p.m., according to jail records. He was arrested by Gadsden police and charged with driving under the influence of controlled substances, second-degree possession of marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

I see Emerson college shows Moore with a 22 point lead September 21-23.

My recollection of the 28% number was that it came from some organization indigenous to Alabama, and i'm thinking it was a newspaper, but I don't recall for sure.

No. Alabama needs a conservative who can win an election. Roy Moore has proven he’s incapable of winning.

Certified loser Mitt Romney managed to carpetbag himself a spot in the Senate. Certainly, Roy Moore would be no worse a Senator than progressive Democrat enabling Romney.
