Driver's license trick to result in seizing your guns?

Democratic presidential hopeful Eric Swalwell is being schooled in the U.S. Constitution after stating on Twitter that since people need a license to drive, the government should require a license to use a gun.

If you need a license to operate a vehicle, shouldn’t you need a license to operate a weapon?https://t.co/V9KERFpFHu

— Eric Swalwell (@ericswalwell) June 16, 2019

Swalwell, who earlier invoked the government’s nuclear weapons to threaten those who would resist gun-confiscation programs, said, “If you need a license to operate a vehicle, shouldn’t you need a license to operate a weapon?”

Twitter user Hector Vargas argued that he already has a license.

He portrayed an image of the U.S. Constitution.

Twitter user Reagan Battalion joined in with, “We have a license, it’s called the Constitution of the United States of America.”

You should read it sometime. https://t.co/ngBRloNXvq

“You should read it sometime,” the Battalion said.

Swalwell repeatedly has argued for gun control.

“Hopelessness and fear abound in too many American neighborhoods,” he wrote Monday on Twitter. “We will restore hope and end gun violence with my gun reform platform.”

No need to ask the question "Are you really that stoopid err-ick?" Obviously he is. Unless I missed the automobile driving amendment. Wasn't there last time I checked.

Actually it’s an argument for not requiring a drivers license. No carriage or horse licenses requires in 1789. Yet we have freedom of movement.

In today’s world that movement involves vehicles.

Maybe getting a license should be a requirement for an abortion.

The obvious retort is that one is a privilege and the other is a protected, pre-existing right. Another failing in that logic is that more people are killed in vehicular incidents than by gunfire.

IMHO a huge failing of DL’s is that it is a one time affair. I believe there should be gradiations to DL’s (more driving education should give those drivers higher speed privileges) and an annual or bi-annual recertification (some people just should not drive).

Private land ownership vs public roadways. Their is no nexus to licensing guns because of the 2d Amendment.

Well, by extension, if illegals only need a license to drive, shouldn’t illegals be allowed to have guns? /s

Driving is not a privilege. We have a common law right to freely move about. There is no constitutional role for the government to restrict movement or require papers to travel.

Driving is not a privilege.

It is a privilege. Any official State actor can revoke that privilege based upon the agreement made when the license is issued.

To be precise and to ward off the Constitutional right” fanbois...

A God given right by virtue of our existence and status as human beings. Only God can rescind it.

Nobody has a constitutional right to drive, but I have a constitutional right to have a rifle, a battle rifle. Do I need a license to exercise my first amendment? Asshole

You don’t even need a license to own and/or operate a vehicle on private property.

It is a privilege.

Only because people accept the premise. Goverment has been known to lie before.

It would be an interesting question: Is there any reason to believe licensed drivers drive better than unlicensed ones? Probably yes, since unlicensed ones are likely to illegal immigrants or too stoned to pass.

But does acquiring a license make you a better driver? I’ve seen no sign it does.

Not a lie, an agreement between the state and a citizen. You wish to drive on public roads, paid for by taxes, then you agree to abide by specific restrictions, constraints, and guidelines. If not, walk.
