There was a time when I got much of my news from the Drudge Report. It seemed to be conservative, and while it also liked to mix in conspiracy theories, Hollywood news, and an unhealthy dominance of Tom Brady fan stories, it generally got the stories right.
Today, the news aggregator is nothing like it once was. Today, its doing three things that should make America-loving patriots absolutely furious.
Looking at it now, of course "they love mainstream media sources."
That's what got the site started: twenty years ago people cared about what this or that commentator or columnist or newspaper thought - and Drudge had links to all of them.
That's a big reason why people went there.
Nobody much cares about those old media sources nowadays, so people don't go to Drudgereport.
If you still want an overview of what a variety of established media sources are saying - Drudge has that, but nobody much wants it anymore.
Looking at the site today, they have a lot of interesting stories and features, but the layout makes it hard to care much.
1. Its not conservative
2. They love mainstream media sources
3. The site is anti-Trump
4. Drudge is a homo
Yep.
Used to go there multiple times a day. Now I can’t remember the last time I opened that page.
There are multiple persons editing/staffing/posting links there. At one point Andrew Breitbart was involved.
Drudge’s cynicism was once expressed by posting leftist silliness in the hope that such exposure would act as mockery of leftist silliness (especially with the mobile army of commenters that would pepper such sites).
But Drudge (the person and the site) got even more cynical and world weary and began posting a plethora of apocalyptic rubbish along with his strange fascination with ‘ew that’s disgusting’ stories about disease, vermin, etc. If Drudge is still personally involved with the site then this fascination with gross-out material may be evidence of mental illness.
But the biggest Drudge sin these days may be the sin of omission. The site’s genesis was the Clinton/Lewinsky affair. But except for the usual DC partisan bickering, where are the stories of Dem corruption and moral depravity that we know must be out there? I’m not talking about Lizard Warren and her Indian idiocy...I’m talking about infidelity, skinny dipping and mental decline (Biden), financial corruption, being on the take from Soros/Steyer, etc.
Blogging and hype filled headlines are nice but we need dirt diggers uncovering facts.
There’s no point posting stories about social media censorship if those stories themselves are censored. Drudge was social media before social media and he needs to start knecapping these leftist cretins - if he can be bothered.
Pete’s got a problem. No cam footage of the shooting of black man. No witnesses.
Memphis rioted over a thug who shot a man getting killed.
Race baiters will be looking to exploit this one.
RUSH NEEDS to STOP featuring that anti-American idiot on his program!! He always has drudge on his huge computer...STOP IT RUSH!!!!
Yes, thank you, have been using Whatfinger for a while now, as well as citizenfreepress.com, city-journal.org, oann.com, rare.us, westernrifleshooters.wordpress.com, knuckledraggin.com, https://gab.com/SkeeterTrump, westernjournal.com, though some would sneer, “But they’re blogs!” Which is true. Some of them are blogs, but they are more interesting and have kept me far busier than Drudge ever did.
Oops..huge computer screen
For me, the same thing is happening with FOX ... Drudge was my “goto” ... now (in spite of the advertisements) Liberty Daily gives you a better rundown. As for Fox, I finally selected OAN for my “primary” favorite channel and dumped Fox. Never though I would do that, but I’m not going to sit there every morning and listen to a bunch of video clips of ranting Democrats. As soon as I ‘hear/see’ a Democrat ... I’d change the channel. OAN is much better news anyway.
I used to go there a dozen times a day. These days maybe twice a month.
I think it's quite deniable, especially in the internet/social media era.
There's no way Breitbart would even exist if they tried to go down the middle - they would just get lost in the sea of other outlets.
.Same is true of dozens of other sites/shows.
Do you think Rush would have made as much money trying to serve the total market?
How long do you think the FReepathons would run if this was a wide open forum?
For many outlets these days the key is to have a loyal, fired up base of readers/listeners who identify as a group. You can make a lot more money off of a small, loyal, highly engaged base than the public in general.
Haven’t clicked on it in years.
Have tuned him out too.
DOZENS of emaciated cats and dogs found in home of FILTH!
Worthless website — removed the link from the homescreen.
If I were a very wealthy, conniving, unscrupulous, evil liberal mogul (think George Soros),. I would secretly pay drudge millions of dollars for his website, swear him to secrecy via a tight contract oh, tell him to disappear, and begin the process of filling the once conservative Drudge report with the new progressive liberal mindset.... now, come to think of it, has anyone seen or heard from Matt Drudge himself lately? Www.thelibertydaily.com is the only way to go.
DRUDGE caught the heat. Over time, it was obvious he succumbed to the dark side. It now looks like a demonic ROHRBACHS screen for the perverted and demonic. Tortured animals, pervert stories and general trash in HIGHLIGHTS.
He curiously stepped away from TRUMP, having gone increasingly and dependably razor wired. Ick.
I read somewhere that the Drudgereport has been sold.
I haven’t checked any further.
Maybe someone more savvy here can follow up and find out.
I’m trying to love OANN, but find the site sparse.
What’s there seems good, but not much of it.
And where’s Liz Wheeler? She gone?
