The House of Representatives voted Tuesday to hold Bill Barr and Don McGahn in contempt of Congress.
Both President Donald Trumps attorney general and former White House counsel defied subpoenas from the House Judiciary Committee, and congressional Democrats followed through on threats to hold them in contempt. The lower chamber voted in favor of H. Res. 430 by a margin of 229-191 in what was a party line vote. (RELATED: AG Bill Barr Is Not Worried About His Reputation: Everyone Dies)
Trump administration officials have come under fire for their handling of Special Counsel Robert Muellers report, which concluded that there was no evidence that the presidents campaign colluded with the Russian government. Mueller declined to weigh in on the possibility that Trump obstructed justice over the course of his investigation.
Perhaps no figure other than Trump himself has drawn more ire from Democrats than Barr, who released his own summary of Muellers report, weeks before it was released to the public. (RELATED: The Kremlin Breaks Silence On Mueller Report)
Congressional Democrats have accused Barr of misleading the public in his summary, with some Democratic leaders even calling on Barr to resign. Mueller himself said last month that he believes Barr acted in good faith.
The Attorney General preferred to make the entire report public all at once. We appreciate that the Attorney General made the report largely public, Mueller said at the time. I do not question the Attorney Generals good faith in that decision.
Despite Muellers report, Democrats are continuing to aggressively investigate the Trump administration ahead of the 2020 presidential election. Earlier this week, Democrats rolled in Watergate figure John Dean to testify in front of the Judiciary Committee, a move widely panned by Republicans and Trump, who called Dean a loser.
Can they countersue now?
The Uniparty is not happy Hillary lost.
The Uniparty is not happy the coup didn’t work.
When do the Republicans walk out in mass? Or do they enjoy being punching bags? Come on Kevin McCarty man up.
In an interview Barr stated he expected to get the Mueller Report with redacted materials highlighted so his staff could redacted them quickly. If this had been done, he would have been able to release the redacted report within days of receiving it.
Mueller’s team didn’t highlight a damned thing. When Barr found that out, he knew it would take three to four weeks to clean up the report for release to the public.
Realizing that, he knew he had to make a summary to get the press and Congress off his back.
He came up with a brief four page summary, which was not proven to have been inaccurate on any count.
There it is. That’s the story straight from Barr’s mouth.
There were no Republicans voting “Yea.”
They all voted, “Nay.”
There is a WaPo article about the DOJ is threatening to do something if the house doesn’t back off. WaPo paywall.
Tell them to #sand.
“PLEASE refer to my earlier testimony. I already answered that question”
The Democrats are in a panic because they know that 0bama authorized spying on the Trump campaign because 0bama thought he was invincible and above the law.
When the reality that 0bama was worse than Nixon sinks in, the public angry could result in a rout in 2020.
100% correct. You have a good memory.
Thanks be-baw.
On some days... smile...
How did that fraud lamb vote ?
I agree. This goes back to Obama, or at least to whoever was manipulating that politically correct sock-puppet, and thats what the Dems are desperate to cover up.
That said, nothing will ever happen to Obama in terms of consequences, but some people around him might go down.
I’ll bet the Dims decline to sue Barr for the disputed materials since they know they would ultimately lose. They got what they wanted today, a talking point to use against Barr as he tears down their house of cards that now has been exposed leading back to Steny Hoyer’s office.
I am holding Congress in contempt.
