The Mexican foreign minister says no secret immigration deal exists between Mexico and the US, just hours after President Donald Trump tweeted that a fully signed and documented agreement would be be revealed in the not too distant future.
Marcelo Ebrard, Mexicos top diplomat, said in a news conference in Mexico City on Monday that there was an understanding that both countries would evaluate the number of migrants crossing the border of Mexico and the United States in the coming months, according to the New York Times.
If the number is no significantly reduced, Mr Ebrard says, both nations will renew discussions about changes to regional asylum rules. According to American officials, those numbers will be reviewed in 45 days, and again in 90 days.
This plan for assessment of the situation before coming to a new arrangement directly contradicts a tweet sent by Mr Trump early Monday morning.
We have fully signed and documented another very important part of the Immigration and Security deal with Mexico, one that the US has been asking about getting for many years, the president wrote.
It will be revealed in the not too distant future and will need a vote by Mexicos Legislative body!.."

The thing about tariffs is they hurt Americans and get the Chamber of Commerce all in a rage because of the fact that we import so much from Mexico now.
Remittances solely punish the Mexicans and Central Americans profiting off of this and gets them angry at THEIR governments.

Dude, they BOTH can be done if necessary. And they can be done simultaneously.

Mexico only controls 20% of its own territory at this point. 60% is uncontested control by the cartels.

Tariffs are bad for the cartels’ biz, too.
If the deal has been scotched by the Mexicans, I’d cherchez les Euroweenies.

Actually it appears the Mexicans are reneging on the deal.

Yep..... no action Mexico will get beat up.
Trump can destroy the economy by the simple act of forcing customs inspections of every truck, van car, suitcase and backpack crossing the border. Post flight customs will take a half day per passenger.

Since we know we can’t believe the media or much of what is said by Mexican officials then I guess we will have to see what happens.
Which is exactly where we were before we read this article.

So true with Mexico you have to see what they actually do or don’t do. What they say usually doesn’t tell the story.
Not so different than in our country when President Trump says something and then Nancy & Company have their version. We have to wait and see what happens here too.

[The Mexicans are CLEARLY learning from the Chinese. Promise them anything...but deliver NOTHING.]
Re delivering on promises, Mexicans are much worse than the Chinese. That’s why despite Chinese wages being higher, as of 2017, so many companies remain in China, rather than move right door to Mexico. It’s not just Mexico. All of Latin America apart from Chile has lower wages than China. But no one’s rushing to move production there because they are such shitholes from an investor’s standpoint. I fully expect Mexico to renege early and often.
