The Mexican foreign minister says no secret immigration deal exists between Mexico and the US, just hours after President Donald Trump tweeted that a fully signed and documented agreement would be be revealed in the not too distant future.
Marcelo Ebrard, Mexicos top diplomat, said in a news conference in Mexico City on Monday that there was an understanding that both countries would evaluate the number of migrants crossing the border of Mexico and the United States in the coming months, according to the New York Times.
If the number is no significantly reduced, Mr Ebrard says, both nations will renew discussions about changes to regional asylum rules. According to American officials, those numbers will be reviewed in 45 days, and again in 90 days.
This plan for assessment of the situation before coming to a new arrangement directly contradicts a tweet sent by Mr Trump early Monday morning.
We have fully signed and documented another very important part of the Immigration and Security deal with Mexico, one that the US has been asking about getting for many years, the president wrote.
It will be revealed in the not too distant future and will need a vote by Mexicos Legislative body!.."

Yup. Bring it on!!!!
Tariffs, then.
too much bluffing.
Put the ####ing tariffs at 25 percent TODAY UNTIL any deal starts to show results.
We’ve become like a loan shark who has no leg breakers working for him.
“You better pay up or elthe!!!”
“Nekth week for thure you better pay!!”
I thought Mexico’s FinMin was referring to a section on agriculture, not the whole deal....
Foreign Minister that is....
Right, if we dont have a deal then start the tarrifs.
The Mexicans are CLEARLY learning from the Chinese. Promise them anything...but deliver NOTHING.
After obtaining biometric (including DNA profiles) and other relevant data, send ALL NEW Asylum seekers immediately back to Mexico to wait. If Mexico doesnt accept them...GAME ON. IMMEDIATELY implement 5% tariffs and start the countdown to escalation of those tariffs.
FWIW, I’d hold off on thinking we know what the status of the deal is until Trump weighs in....
Yahoo...seriously! Fakest of the Fake news!
I thought the tariffs were going on until it was shown that the Mexicans were serious and doing what they said they were going to do. I guess not.
This is super hard for the Mexican President (AMLO) to have to sell back home. It is the exact opposite of what he ran on, and has long espoused as a major issue (a fundamental human right to migrate into the USA).
It would be like President Trump agreeing to demolish all border barriers and checks at Ports of Entry - the opposite of what his base wants.
It may be that they hope to simply never admit to it in the Mexican media - a Democrat-style big lie.
Well according to Trump a deal was signed and delivered. So, which is it?
This came from another leftist rag The Independent.
But they directly quote the Mexican FM.
It’s unlikely they would deliberately fake this...he’s Mexican after all.
Mexico doesn’t want a Third Country agreement on asylum. The Mexican media has been demonizing Yanquis and the politicians say they will never do it to spite El Norte.
What they want is an unofficial agreement at best that will be disregarded and considered null and void as soon as Trump leaves the White House.
If Trump was really serious he would direct the Treasury to start taxing remittances, which he can do unilaterally.
Under the ED he can impose tariffs unilaterally too.
Everyone wants you to think they won the negotiations.
Mexican trying to act as an equal...Trump should counter his statement with tariffs. Then the mexican worm will slither around and agree...
The thing about tariffs is they hurt Americans and get the Chamber of Commerce all in a rage because of the fact that we import so much from Mexico now.
Remittances solely punish the Mexicans and Central Americans profiting off of this and gets them angry at THEIR governments.
Mexican leaders are in fear of the cartels (who have partnered with elements of the US govt) even if they arent directly paid off. Very convoluted situation.
