The Supreme Court rejected a case Monday brought by an atheist who wanted to scrub In God We Trust, the U.S. motto, from the nations currency, claiming it was an entanglement of state and religion.
Michael Newdow, an activist who previous challenged reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in schools, had set his sights on money, but lost at the district, circuit and now Supreme Court levels.
On behalf of a group of atheists, Mr. Newdow argued Americas money lacked an reference to God until 1864, when it was added in. He said that amounted to an endorsement of religion.

It was first used by the State of Florida as their motto.
I would say that it amounts to an endorsement of common sense.
And a phrase does NOT establish a religion.....anymore than a school prayer established a religion.
Newdow has been doing this for years. And still fails.
Newdow has been at this for 17 years!
Lots of history here:

I have an 1864 two-cent piece, too. Not in great shape, but pretty cool.
I wonder where this guy got the $$$ for all those expensive court challenges...
Yes...I know..
Yep, Newdow is like an energizer rodent, just keeps slithering along.
Wonder if he will meet the same fate as Maddie O’Hair.
Let us pray that God puts someone in this man’s path that witnesses to him. God is a God of second chances . . . .

“On behalf of a group of atheists”
Who?
Just another rat bastard that is trying to destroy the American culture and faith.
The Constitution says nothing about “entanglement.” It says “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion,” nothing more. Nothing more is required or implied. There may not be an Established Religion of the government. That is all.
Think of what it would cost to change the currency etc if this POS had won. How could he prove he was damaged by having the saying on the money? And I want to know who is financing him.
Endorsing religion is great.
Endorsing a particular religion isn’t.
This a-hole has been doing this for years. Scumbag even used a kid (I believe it was his)to fight the Pledge of Allegiance. I dare any of these Atheists to challenge Islam on anything.
Yes, everyone knew what it was about at the time. Just as there was a Church of England and a Church of Scotland. There would not be a Church of The United States.
Even that was not forbidden, just could not be established by the government.
