Las Vegas grandmother sues TSA after they 'forced her to do a strip search and made her remove a common feminine hygiene product' (full title)
Rhonda Mengert had been traveling from the Tulsa International Airport on Mother's Day when her hip implant caused the metal detector to sound off. Mengert - who has TSA Pre-check - informed agents that she had the implant but agreed to a pat down test. During the pat down, an agent found a 'common feminine hygiene product that Mengert was wearing underneath her clothing.'
The agent then tested her gloves and found no explosive residue on them - as per protocol - but informed Mengert that she had to undergo more test. In a private room, the agent and another forced Mengert to strip out of her pants and underwear.... and remove a 'common feminine hygiene product' before her flight back home.
Mengert's lawyer state that the woman suffered emotional distress during and after the event. ~snip~
She is requesting a trial by jury and is seeking a undetermined amount in damages.
The grandmother had just left her family for the holiday when she experienced the traumatic search
A screener and another agent - the two defendants in the case - instructed Mengert to go into a private room so that they could 'clear the area.'
She was then allegedly told to remove her pants and underwear and to then remove the product for 'visual inspection.'
Initially refusing, Mengert eventually complied and removed her garments while exposing her genitals to the agents.
After she 'satisfied the screeners request' and proved that she wasn't carrying any prohibited items, Mengert had to ask four times if she could leave before she was allowed.

During his acceptance speech in Cleveland during the summer of 2016, GOP nominee Donald Trump said something about reigning in the TSA. I don’t recall his exact words.
The travelling public is still waiting, Mr. President.
I just got through TSA security without getting arrested. I consider that a win.
Shouldn't she inform TSA she had a hip implant before she went through the scanner?
Did she alert TSA about the implant before she went thru metal detector ?
“TSA gives you a lift!”
Flying today:
I’s never going to stop- they are unionized, and the mob bosses are now involved, so it is imperative for politicians owned by the bosses to make sure the jobs stay forever.
Tulsa airport is the Worst! I saw them force a 93 year old woman out of wheelchair, forced her to REMOVE braces with thick lactic shields on her legs, stand with legs spread apart, and they felt her up and down. It was a MIRACLE she didnt fall and break her hips! It was disgusting. TSA ARE EVIL SADISTIC!
I wore an almost see thru blouse, no bra. A lesbian TSA felt me up and was breathing heavily. Panting. Sick!
The fascists in government saw an opportunity. 9/11 was the excuse. They would create a new police force which would force the public to become compliant, submissive sheep. They would embarrass and shame individuals. Anyone who spoke up would be treated harshly.
It was planned with the help of psychologists so as to produce the maximum effect. The public would be told that the searches were “random,” or every 10th passenger. (That’s not random.) Of course it isn’t. That was to make the selection criteria impossible to discern, and to allow agents to select individuals who “looked suspicious.” (Looking suspicious is a contradiction in terms.
By violating the societal norms of modesty, they are telling us that they are in charge and that we are to bow down in abject submission to our true masters.
Some rhetoric, but essentially true.
The TSA is a joke. I used to fly general aviation to pick up and drop off my wife at Jack Brooks regional airport (KBPA) in Beaumont, TX. After the hurricanes came through and blew away everything, they used to operate the commercial terminal and the general aviation terminal out of the same building. Both general and private aviation used the same entrance and same lobby area as the commercial passengers. They used to exit out of the same set of doors to the boarding ramp. The only thing that separated them was one of those temporary line separators like you see in a bank. The line on the left was for commercial passengers who had to go through the usual anal exam to board the regional flights, and the line on the right was for private and general aviation people. When I picked my wife up, we usually headed to our farm in either OK or East Texas, and it was not unusual for us to be packing all sorts of handguns, long guns, ammo, etc. And we used to walk right by the line of people waiting to be anal-examined, and walk right out the same doors they were going to walk out, and walk straight out to my aircraft which was usually parked on the same ramp as their plane. Quite often, I would have to juggle two gun cases into one hand so I could wave at the pilot and crew as I walked by to load up our plane. And, because it was Texas, they couldn’t say diddly to me because we were general aviation using the general aviation part of the airport. Which, of course, was the same part of the airport they were using. More than once the pilot and crew would ask us where we were going hunting as we walked by. It was that way for at least two years that I can recall until they built the new commercial terminal.
On our return trip to the US from Mexico, one of the women was strip searched and prodded. And that was a USA inspector.
You really think the President can stop everything? Don't blame him....blame the inspector.
Now you can just pretend to be an illegal. Put your belongings in a Walmart bag, have a big yellow envelope with you and carry water bottles and things not allowed and someone will escort you around airport security.
I certainly don’t blame the president.
I was pointing out that he mentioned something about reigning in the abuses on the TSA while delivering his acceptance speech in Cleveland during the 2016 Republican National Convention.
I just would like to see him and/or the Dept. of Homeland Security secretary reign in this rogue agency called the TSA.
The article above says the woman told the TSA types about her implant.
Looks like in her 50’s white, average, corn-fed, normal looking woman that flies frequently. From the picture, she did nothing to deserve this.
The article at the top of this thread says the woman did, in fact, tell the TSA about her implant.
And if you uttered a word, your subjected to a full groping or cavity search.
My husband tells them his prosthetic arm will set it off and his legs are full of various shrapnel. They always ignore him and then seem shocked when he sets off the alarms. Now he is hard of hearing and if he doesn’t hear what they say to him they immediately act angry as if he is a bad guy that is just not complying. She may have told them she had a hip replacement but they didn’t listen.
