True, and there’s a very good chance Peterson knows a lot more about this whole squalid mess than he’s been willing to say until now. Since he’s looking at the serious prospect of spending the rest of his miserable life in prison, he has a good incentive to rat out the whole rotten group. Let’s hope he does and it goes all the way up to Obola.

Looking closer into this, there is one charge (perjury) which MAY stick. Lying on the police report or to an investigator can trigger the perjury charge. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Being a coward is not a crime.

Oh, I agree. That said, while I hate the waste of taxpayer money to prosecute this loser, I will enjoy knowing he will, unless his former employer covers it, be paying his ill earned pay to an attorney. If they can bankrupt the scumbag, well, it would be a little touch of justice.

Would be good if they can take his pension away from him.

I also hope this is the case. But knowing government schools, I suspect the taxpayers will pay for his defense, or at least they have paid for the insurance that will defend him. We'll see.

True, but it might make the next would-be coward think again. They stood poor Admiral John Byng before a firing squad for a lot less.

If you’re going to take the money, then do the job.

If you look at the statue in question, this boils down to whether being a school resource officer makes the deputy a “caregiver” for the students.

This is a tough one.

How do you criminally charge someone for NOT doing something?

And if it’s true they were told to make a 500 ft perimeter and wait for backup, that settles it. Not guilty.

But I would have ignored that order and could not sit there listening to gunfire and kids dying.

So the coward of broward will just have to sit on his fat ass collecting that fat pension he didn’t earn.

I suspect that the outcome will be a local conviction that is overturned by a higher court.

It may have to be enough that he will have to send most of his very generous pension on attorney fees.

"You can’t criminalize courageous or lack of courage..."

I would refer you to Article 99 of the UCMJ. Granted it doesn't apply to the Coward of Broward.

To my thinking, the bigger issue of responsibility is why didn't the SRO stop the kid, whom he knew to be prohibited from the school, from entering in the first place. Same for all the school counselor folks and LEO’s who did nothing for months before the shooting despite countless incidents. I keep expecting someone to tattle or die suddenly from an arkancide-like event.

Government and their subsets have no obligation to protect beyond its given scope within its legal entity. I would not bet my child’s life upon government in any capacity. I have been a part of government that protects non-Americans with their lives more so than native-Americans.

It’s good to shoot an admiral from time to time; it encourages the others.

EXCERPT FDLE spokeswoman Jessica Cary said in an emailed statement, the investigation showed Peterson:
<><> refused to investigate where the gunshots were coming from,
<><> retreated during the gunfire as victims were being shot,
<><> directed other law enforcement who arrived on scene to remain 500 feet away from the building.

“The FDLE investigation shows former Deputy Peterson did absolutely nothing to mitigate the MSD shooting that killed 17 children, teachers ad staff and injured 17 others,” said FDLE Commissioner Rick Swearingen. “There can be no excuse for his complete inaction and no question that his inaction cost lives.”

According to the Broward State Attorney’s Office, Peterson is facing
<><> seven felony counts of child neglect,
<><> three misdemeanor counts of culpable negligence
<><> one misdemeanor count of perjury.

The investigation included 184 witness interviews, review of countless hours of video surveillance and resulted in 212 investigative reports and more than 800 hours of investigation, Cary said.

Peterson was arrested Tuesday afternoon after an administrative discipline hearing at the sheriff’s office headquarters on Broward Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. If convicted as charged, Peterson could face a maximum of nearly 97 years in state prison. His bond has been set at $102,000.

Also terminated was Sgt. Brian Miller.“[Peterson and Miller] were found to have neglected their duties at MSD High School,” Tony said in an emailed statement.

Yep, cowardice in the face of the enemy is a crime.

I would think civilian laws could be enacted to do the same for police. At least cowardice leading to loss of innocent life should result in the coward being fired and losing ALL benefits.
