Attorney General William Barr in an interview that aired Friday morning said he has approached the director of the FBI, Christopher Wray, about forming a group of officials to deal with election security issues for the 2020 election and beyond.
In an interview with "CBS This Morning," Barr said that the U.S. efforts to counter efforts by Russia and other governments to meddle in U.S. affairs was becoming "increasingly robust."
"Yes, we do have, I think, an increasingly robust program that is focusing on foreign influence in our election process," Barr told CBS.
"I talked recently to the director of the FBI about putting together a special high-level group to make sure we're totally prepared for the upcoming elections," he added.
During this interview, he also addressed concerns from Democrats about his use of the word "spying" to describe early surveillance efforts against members of the Trump campaign related to the now-shuttered investigation into the Trump campaign and Russian election interference.
Democrats have hammered Barr for his use of the term during a House appropriations subcommittee hearing earlier this year, when Barr said that he believed "spying" did occur targeting the Trump campaign while adding that he did not take a position on its legality. Questions about its legality, he added in the interview airing Friday, remain.
"You know, it is part of the craziness of the modern day that if a president uses a word then all of a sudden it becomes off bounds, it is a perfectly good English word, I will continue to use it," Barr said.
"Like many other people who are familiar with intelligence activities, I had a lot of questions about what was going on," he continued. "I assumed I'd get answers when I went in, and I have not gotten answers that are, well, satisfactory."
Barr has ordered a team of prosecutors to examine the early stages of the Russia investigation and has vowed to determine whether conduct by the FBI and DOJ surrounding the investigation crossed into unethical territory.
His first sit-down interview comes just days after special counsel Robert Mueller resigned from his position at a press conference, declaring the investigation over while adding that he could not exonerate the president of wrongdoing.
Totally agree.
I have no concern regarding Russian or other foreign election tampering. The real issue is Democrat and Deep State election tampering.
As I understand it, Russia purchased $100,000 worth of ads on Facebook. That’s it.
The Trump Administration has been somewhat crippled because Russia did that.
The Bad Actor here isn’t Russia — it’s the Democrats.
Besides, there is a code among we patriots that forbid rattin' and hangin' each other.
I'm sick of it.
Hannity also needs to stfu about the blue collar FBI
He praises the rank and file so much it sounds like he has Tourettes syndrome. Hannity is so annoying we have to mute him between guests, which turns out to challenge fine-motor skills with the remote. Is there anybody who interrupts guests more to hear himself talk? Laura Ingraham provides some tough competition for that title, though.
Tucker gives them rope and then hangs them.
Have to agree.
I don’t want the FBI involved in elections.
Is he joking?
The FBI is corrupt, Mr. Barr, and you have done nothing to address that fact.
Please name a country on this earth, where I can go and vote in THEIR elections
“he has approached the director of the FBI, CHRISTOPHER WRAY, about forming a group of officials to deal with election security issues for the 2020 election and beyond.”
Christopher Wray. We’re so screwed.
Brenda Snipes, the serial election fraudster, was caught red handed in every election. Shes the hero of the left who showed the democrats how easy it was to cheat. Her punishment, a $150,000/year pension. No way the fraud stops when every state condones and promotes it.

Once Barr forensically determines that the entire Mueller Tree was poison, the fruits of that tree will disintegrate before our eyes, and many cases will become moot/dismissed/pulled. A quick pivot can then facilitate prosecutions of the coup detat conspirators. Lets speed up the clock so it is completed before November 2020.

Unfort, that doesn’t == Justice. None of the offenders will be tried, if fired and the victims will have been improperly impugned, maligned, financially broken and life STOLEN (if behind bars).
What needs to be done is to check every registration to make sure voters are actually citizens.
The foreign influence is happening in the voting booth.
I disagree with most on the thread. I read this a AG Barr being forward thinking and imagining how, during 2020, every computer glitch is seen as “more Trump-Russian operative tricks” and without mounting such a task force he will have media fake news people out ahead of him.
Remember the DNC computer glitches and Fuzzy Bear and all the efforts to anthropomorphize what was probably just bad computer security.
The DNC has complicity in all this. Why not just say it and be perfectly honest?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The GOP has complicity in all this.
Just like the Kenyanesian Usurpation.
Why not just say it and be perfectly honest?
Thanks for this, and yes, the Rs know they are getting screwed yet they do nothing meaningful to stop voter fraud. We might have one election left before we fall into a permanent UniParty political system. I’m going to enjoy every day of Trump until 11/3/2020. That could be it.
He is.
While I had not considered your hope, upon reflection, if it is painful and then fatal, I agree.
Having been a poll watcher in PA for many years, I've seen what occurs and can recommend several ways to help prevent voter fraud.
1) In person, one day only voting in federal elections. Must have photo ID that proves citizenship.
2) Absentee ballots on for specific reasons, military etc.
3) NO mail in ballots as a general method.
4) No early voting.
5) If you are proven to have committed or abetted voter fraud, minimum 5 year jail sentence, and $50,000 fine.
These methods would not eliminate all voter fraud, but if would reduce it way down.
So they’re forming a task force to deal with basically non-existent “foreign medding”.
Great. Now what are you going to do about the actually significant problem of domestic vote fraud, “ballot harvesting”, illegals voting, etc???
“People here say its hard at the federal level to control local cheating.”
Gee, the feds didn’t seem to have any problem cracking down when it came to enforcing federal election laws on the South.
Well yeah that is true :)
