President Donald Trump has been sailing into the wind, against the tide, dragging an anchor, for the first two years of his presidency. And despite these hindrances, he is presiding over a booming economy and record low unemployment, circumstances that were said to be unattainable without a magic wand, according to the last president.
Yet look at the forces arrayed against Trump. Not only as president, but ever since that fateful day when he descended the escalator at Trump Tower in June 2015 announcing his candidacy. And perhaps before that.
The wind against him has been the virtually nonstop negative media coverage each and every day. Not just anti-Trump spin, but actual fake news. Media outlets bristle when accused of peddling fake news, but one has to only look to last weekend for the latest example. Time columnist Ian Bremmer fabricated a Trump quote and set it loose in the Twitterverse, only to be immediately retweeted by other Trump haters like CNNs Ana Navarro, before being deleted. No contrition was offered since in their view the quote could have been true.
Imagine fighting the winds of negativity on a daily basis, being called a racist, white supremacist, accused of being a Russian agent and committing treason. These were gale force winds from all the major newspapers and television networks, with only a few lone voices on Fox News, talk radio, and the internet giving the President fair and balanced coverage.
The tidal current Trump is sailing against is his own party. He was never accepted as the leader of the GOP, despite winning the White House against long odds with coattails delivering both houses of Congress to the Republicans, only to have the once in a generation opportunity squandered by do-nothings like former Speaker Paul Ryan.

And that is why the POS spoke yesterday for 5 minutes.
It will backfire.
Impeachment will be a disaster.
Their blind hatred will help them as much as R’s hatred of Bill helped them.
And though the impeachment wasn’t until the end of his terms, Rs hated him early on and to no avail.
I was one of them. Looking back, I would rather we laid out a vision instead of our strategy being the dems’ now.
Hating a president. People don’t vote for your guy based on that.
Dems will crash and burn. Good.
He isn’t out of the woods, yet. So many, even in his own party, have the long knives out for him.
Really, it is up to us to primary out these RINOs so he can get the support he needs to do great things.
The tidal current Trump is sailing against is his own party.

True, and mutinous Republicans inside the administration have put an anchor out over the stern to try to slow his ship down.
Note the silence of the Republican “crew” and their refusal to fight for the captain.
Clinton committed actually proved crimes.
Whether it was politically wise to impeach, well, I leave that to history.
Not only that, but Trump will make sure to declassify every piece of information that exonerates him...and then maybe some of the Imran Awan case, etc., as well.
Great article, detailing the obstacles Trump has faced and overcome.
The dirty little secret is that Trump's base of support includes a lot of DEMOCRATS who wouldn't give the Republican Party the time of day. This is borne out in the poll numbers I've seen from Trump's recent rallies, suggesting that more than 30% of the people who attend them are Democrats.
Let's be brutally honest here. Trump is the "RINO," not those @ssholes in the GOP who are trying to undermine him. They are just doing what Republicans in Washington always do -- screw their voters on behalf of their financial supporters.
The entire Mueller investigation was an aggressive defensive effort to protect first and foremost Obama and his acolytes from responsibility of the crime of rigging a Presidential election. It also became the centerpiece of the “resistance” aided shamelessly by the MSM to prevent Trump from ousting the globalists from the federal infrastructure and implementing his America first policies. So far it has not failed and Trump has been on the defensive with much of his agenda stalled. He has railed against his tormentors and has threatened to “declassify” documents and fight back. So far no arrests, no real help from less than vibrant Republicans and if anything the evil Democrats have been emboldened, sense blood in the water and are perched to seize power. If they do, it will be a catastrophe for the American nation.
Comparing what happened with Bill Clinton’s Impeachment to anything they do to trump is comparing apples and orances.
You can’t say “this worked against R’s when Bill was impeached, so it willl workd against D’s if they impeach Trump”
That is just very wrong.
Bill had ACTUAL crimes- It was not just GOP ‘hatred’.
The corrupt democrats ignored his REAL crimes, and the media gave us daily poll numbers telling us how much we love him.
Now, there are no actual crimes. Trump has popularity even Bill wishes he had.
There are some DEMS that will actually not vote to impeach. (They aren’t ALL stupid).
This will backfire, I agree, but it is not just as simple as “it backfired for Bill”.
OH AGREED and can’t believe I left that out.
Thanks for correcting it.
But palpable hatred, like I know I HAD for him...it just doesn’t draw voters.
The good thing is this time it’s the dems displaying OBVIOUS and VERY PALPABLE HATRED.
And it IS destroying them.
Their “base” will love it.
That’s about 40 percent of the country.
40 doesn’t’ win presidential elections.
Yeah it is.
HE DID do actual wrong things.
But it wasn’t treason and nobody gave a flying #### about his lying about sex or even having sex. Even in the oval office.
We could LIE to ourselves that the majority did, which we do sometimes around here.
But that doesn’t change the truth that our hatred of him was a blinding fustercluck.
I hope I don’t get another “THE BIG DIFFERENCE IS CLINTON WAS GUILTY” post :)
I will just cut and paste this response.
The assault by Trump on the Rats must result in their death, their total annihilation. There is no compromise no middle ground. No mercy, no quarter........ death, just death
Interesting view and hard to find fault with it. Wouldn’t it be great for Trump to run as an independent in 2020 and win?!
100% of this 40% won’t even bother to vote because that requires a difficult action of leaving their keyboards, actually going to a polling place and casting a vote, on a Tuesday.
Bill was guilty of lying to a Federal Judge. That was proved
Let’s be brutally honest here. Trump is the “RINO,” not those @ssholes in the GOP who are trying to undermine him. They are just doing what Republicans in Washington always do — screw their voters on behalf of their financial supporters.

Blunt but so true. The GOP as a WHOLE is really the problem. Everyone complains about the back stabbing RINO’s (of which there are many) but the rest of the party is pathetically weak and absolutely does nothing to reign them in. For example, the House Republicans could have replaced Ryan but they refused to do it. And it cost our country dearly.
Also, what on earth is the GOP controlled senate doing to help and defend this president?
The Republican voters selected and elected Donald Trump to lead the country. Despite this clear and overwhelming vote, the Republican Party still does not support the decisions and agenda the Republican voters wanted.
How much more betrayal does it take to wake up Republican voters?
Wouldnt it be great for Trump to run as an independent in 2020 and win?!
****************
Its an idea that I can support. Isn’t he already a de facto independent? What does his own party do for him?
I’ll donate to Trump regardless, but would probably donate more if he ran as an independent. :)
