“Treason!” – Barr Finds “Government Power Was Used To Spy On American Citizens
The Liberty Beacon ^ | 5-17-2019

Posted on 05/17/2019 10:21:23 AM PDT by blam

In his first pair of interviews since being sworn in, Attorney General Barr told Fox News and WSJ that he was pursuing the investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia probe – an investigation he has tasked

John Durham, the US Attorney from Connecticut, with leading – because Americans need to know whether the government “put a thumb on the scale” to try and undermine President Trump both during the campaign and during the first two years of his term, just like “we need to ensure that foreign actors don’t influence the outcome of our elections.”

Separately, he told WSJ that “government power was used to spy on American citizens…I can’t imagine any world where we wouldn’t take a look and make sure that was done properly.”

Barr has doubled-down on using the term ‘spying’, which has angered Democrats, after first using it during Senate committee testimony from April 10, where he uttered the now-infamous phrase “I think spying did occur.”

The AG has declined to elaborate on what prompted these concerns, though he has said he’d be interested to see the underlying intelligence that sparked the FBI decision,in the summer of 2016, to open a counterintelligence investigation. At this point, Durham’s review isn’t a criminal investigation, and Barr hasn’t offered a timetable for when the investigation might be completed. Ultimately, the probe could lead to changing FBI protocols involving investigations into political campaigns.

Appearing to respond to Barr’s interviews, President Trump declared that his campaign was “conclusively” spied on.

My Campaign for President was conclusively spied on. Nothing like this has ever happened in American Politics. A really bad situation. TREASON means long jail sentences, and this was TREASON!

Mexicans influenced 2016 more than Russians did.

Doesnt a state of war have to be in effect before the charge of treason can be leveled?

Levying war against the US is one way to commit treason.

But adhering to our enemies, and giving them aid and comfort is another way to commit treason. If foreign spy agencies are involved in a coup attempt against a lawfully elected President of the United States, then I think any America who assisted that effort is a traitor.

"Treason is a hanging offense, right?"

Is Treason A Hanging Offense In United States Of America?

Generally not. Treason may be punished by death, or by any prison sentence between five years and life, but it is almost impossible to be hanged for treason under current law.

The federal death penalty statute provides that a person condemned to death should be executed by the method prescribed by the law of the state where the federal court sits; if that state has no death penalty, the court sends him to one that does and has him executed there. Only New Hampshire and Washington still allow hanging; New Hampshire allows it only if lethal injection is impossible, and Washington allows it only if the condemned prisoner requests it instead of lethal injection.

Respectfully, Mr. President, it actually means a long drop with a short rope.

Some reporter should ask the ‘burn’ Sanders, ‘slow’ Joe Biden, Lizzie ax Warren, Booker-Harris, etc., if they think President Trump should use Obama’s hammer on them.

Treason is a very very difficult charge to make in the US.
The Founding Fathers set the bar very high in the Constitution, they had the example of their history - the UK’s Judge Jeffrys and his “Bloody Azzies”.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloody_Assizes

Also Chief Justice John C Marshall set it higher during the Burr Trial. After the Civil War the Confederate leadership was never brought to trial for treason even though they met the standard Marshall set. It was wise then that it was not seriously pursued. These clowns have committed more then enough felonies! Try them for those! All real Treason Trials will look like to the public is revenge and be spun by the media into something akin to Stalinist Moscow Show. Trials. Remember at some point there will be a Rat administration again. Do you really want treason trials as a precedent in our political landscape? Today them, tomorrow you! Much of this to the average Rat voter is revenge for what happened to Slick Willie. (and yes I think he deserved it and more!) I’ve never understood the hold the Clintons have on the mind of the Rat voter. It’s exceptional!

The Founders made treason charges hard to do, and wise men made it even harder! Even those convicted of treason in WWII for the most part were quietly released after a few years. You don’t want treason trials to become easy! We are not Europe, Asia, or anywhere else. We are the “exceptional land” I prefer to keep it that way!

Collusion is not conspiracy either.

“Treason” and “spying” are good messaging.

Trump is trolling the ‘rats.

Well, the Constitution defines treason as levying war against the United States, giving aid and comfort to, or adhering to, enemies of the United States.

I think the plotters are guilty if dedition.

“changing FBI protocols”

This is 100% what we are going to get at the end of all this.
