Doesnt a state of war have to be in effect before the charge of treason can be leveled?
Levying war against the US is one way to commit treason.
But adhering to our enemies, and giving them aid and comfort is another way to commit treason. If foreign spy agencies are involved in a coup attempt against a lawfully elected President of the United States, then I think any America who assisted that effort is a traitor.
Collusion is not conspiracy either.
“Treason” and “spying” are good messaging.

Well, the Constitution defines treason as levying war against the United States, giving aid and comfort to, or adhering to, enemies of the United States.
I think the plotters are guilty if dedition.
