The politicians think I am rich so I guess I am added to the rich list. I am 65 and still working. Taxes are too damn high to quit.
I live here in the swamp in DC. The rich here don't drive the economy. They skim the economy and flow a sufficient percentage back to the politicians to keep the game going.
Capitalism and crony capitalism are two very different things. Build a business selling goods and services into the free market - no argument however rich you get. Build a business doing well by doing not much except buying politicians - well that's a different story.
Wealth and income are different.

How many people does Jeff Bezos employ? My friend made $32MM last year and he doesn’t employ anyone. He does have a gardener and cleaning lady once a week but they’re not his employees.
Poor people are usually more stinky than rich people.
You just happened to pick a corrupt place to live. I know a few rich people and none of them attend political events. One friend employs over 150 people...they do drive the economy. For those who do play the system, is that their fault or the fault of the politicians who let it be known that they can be bought?

Buying a politician is not really in the spirit of free market capitalism. You buy the politician to evade the harsh realities of the marketplace.

“Stinking rich” generally means well off from a great business that went gangbusters, illegal pursuits excepted.
I’d rather work to be paid by a rich person, rather than by a poor person.
All Americans are rich compared to the rest of the world. And the Socialists / Marxists / Communists are willing to import as many as they need to get total control.
Then they transform a nation into Venezuela. The nation’s wealth is treated as their personal piggy bank.
Half the world lives on less than $2 per day. Why should Americans who make minimum wage not have half of their paychecks or more taken and redistributed to the poor of the world?
Socialism sounds like utopia to poor people... until they find out they are actually the rich who need to contribute more and keep less for themselves.
