Science commentator Bill Nye had some choice words about the need for urgent action to combat global warming.
On "Last Week Tonight With John Oliver" on Sunday, after the host discussed the Green New Deal, Nye demonstrated an experiment that was different from his usual more staid fare.
Appearing in a lab coat and donning safety glasses, Nye opined "when something costs more, people buy less of it," in reference to a possible carbon tax that's been floated by politicians as a way to mitigate climate change. ..."
“By the end of this century, if emissions keep rising, the average temperature on Earth could go up another four to eight degrees.
What I’m saying is the planet’s on f------ fire,” Nye said while setting a globe on fire with a blowtorch that had been hidden under his desk.

I read somewhere he has a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Given some of his nonsensical statements on climate he must have flunked his Thermodynamics courses. I also read he did work for Boeing at one time. He ad a entry-level engineering job which he used primarily to finance his breaking into show business - originally as a night club comic.
Oh, wait. In today's brave new world, debate on this issue is forbidden. In fact, some politicians have proposed jail time for it. Never mind.

My son used to work in flight operations on a solar observatory satellite mission. He asked his boss, an actual scientist who dealt with solar issues for decades about his view on global warming. The guy laughed and simply said it was stupid.
My kid laughed and agreed with him.

So is Bill Nye pro-nuclear power? Given the choice, does he think a Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository is too risky, and he’d rather accept the end of life on earth as we know it? Or does he prefer simply to triple or quadruple electricity costs, on the grounds that the peasants don’t need air conditioning or refrigeration or electric lights?
