If the Left waits long enough, we who remember the Golden Age will all die off.

Que sera sera!

Seriously, one of the most beautiful women of Hollywood who kept up a wholesome image, made a ton of money and was politically conservative. I don’t think you’ll see her class in Hollywood ever again.

RIP, Doris.

Great talent that could sing, dance and act with the best of them in her day— A Great lady.

A fine lady in every way. Nobody is perfect but she came closer than most. I’m truly saddened. R.I.P.

Amazing that episode of The Tonight Show was actually allowed to air back in ‘74.

She was the girl next door that grew into the perfect wife. You never know, with Hollywood, if the image is as sweet as the reality, but Doris Day never broke her cover.I suspect she really was that sweet, because youth fades, but the soul shows through after a while. She stayed beautiful all her life.

I agree. At that age I think most folks sort of accept the idea as not such a bad option.

There are exceptions, people still in reasoned health and enjoying life.

Part of it is the seedy underbelly of the press that reports every detail of people’s lives today. One almost wonders if she would have survived the onslaught of prying eyes out there in the numbers we have them today.

I’m not saying that to put her down. It’s just that we are all human and have our human frailties.

It is impressive the wholesome character she maintained to the end.

Certainly a very nice thing to observe.

She was offered the part of Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate and turned it down. She thought the script was offensive.

Love that woman. I even enjoyed “Please don’t Eat the Daisies”, despite the fact that David Niven was miscast.

A damn shame that just as Rock Hudson was transitioning from Beefcake Himbo to serious leading man, he was cast aside by most casting directors.

It’s amazing in those days Rock was able to tone down the fag level to almost imperceptible (even if it was pretty clear that he was pretty much known to be in H’wood). Today, most of them have their settings at a 9, 10 or higher.

Frankenheimer got a magnificent performance out of Hudson in “Seconds”, though. Obviously showing what he was capable of. He was pretty damn good in “Giant”, too.

As for Doris Day, I still think my favorite performance of hers was “The Man Who Knew Too Much.” Her meltdown after learning her son was kidnapped also showed she good do an excellent dramatic turn. The only negative was inflicting “Que Sera Sera” on us, which almost ranks up there with “It’s A Small World” on the teeth-chattering scale.

Curiously, when she was giving her recital at the embassy at the end of the movie, she sang a lovely second song that barely registered (playing in the background in the distance when Stewart, son & kidnapper Bernard Miles were walking down the stairs). I find it much more charming...
