Yesterday, out of the blue, I clicked on Howlin's Facebook page and learned that she'd passed away. I found her obituary and learned that she had departed on September 19, 2018 at the age of 72.
She was a mainstay at Free Republic and her last post there was on April 22, 2007.
I liked her a lot and I will miss her.
12 years since her last post here. She clearly left an impression with many.
The quality of the talent that has been attracted to FR continues to amaze me.
Requiescat in pace, dear lady.
Yep. Exactly why I did not post a thread when she passed. She and I disagreed on much.
She was most certainly a Never Trumper and I am most certainly NOT. She was nice enough in person, I will say that.
RIP Howlin
AFing is a extremely small part of GOP Briefing Room. I rarely even see it anymore but I may have “silenced” it.
I remember when Howlin’s son died. That was tragic. I didn’t pay attention to the Freeper Wars.
She is certainly missed. Was behind a lot of good and a lot of fun here!
RIP, Howlin. Remember her well.
Sorry to hear about Howlin
:(Eternal rest Howlin, she was kind to me when my son died. She left on her own and they started a new website.I never joined but was invited. My favorite Howlin thread was when everyone was fighting whether Clay Aiken was gay.:)
You would have paid attention if you had gotten banned for two years over Bush immigration
And Howlin was the instigator
It had a way of getting your attention
Being banned from a conservative forum over what is now a conservative position because the in club liked that power
No thanks
I hope she found everlasting peace...no question about that but man she and her group some of whom are still here more quiet now ran this joint basically up till Wideawakes and they hated culture warriors or socons or paleos as we were called
And they would lay bait and gang up and get a sympathetic mod and you were gone
Just like that and then theyd do a whoop dance
Thats just the reality of how it was especially over Bush amnesty....many folks here apparently have no recall of that
She seemed unhappy and lived on the forum and yes as we all know suffered tragedy at home sadly. And was a huge basketball fan.
I hope she passed comfortably
Btw
I went over to Briefingroom
Man not much traffic like before
How bizarre.
Her last post was laughing on a bugzapper thread.
She left in 06/07 with Mad Ivan for Wideawakes
Theres plenty of threads on that era
She never came back after that site imploded
Shed left too much scorched earth here
Going up and down this thread reminds me how much of a ladies club this is in reality
Im guessing over fifty percent are over 50 gals
I reviewed hundreds of her posts to see if I ever tangled with her. I never even got to 2006. She did post a lot, that’s for sure.
I did not find any posts between me and her. And I don’t remember ever being on her bad side, as it were.
But Man! Plenty of people were. She was not nice.
It’s one of the reasons I like it. News stories fly through here and they sometimes get buried beneath the gay/Muslim tirades. It’s much slower there and I am more likely to catch something. Plus the chatter is greatly reduced in the stories. It’s kinda like going in to ask “Do I need to pay attention? Nope, go back to Reddit and look at Fountain Pens”
When you were banned for a calendar year I left until you were allowed to return ..... you were correct then as you are to this day .....
I headed over to Wideawakes in the fall of 2007 and stayed there until early 2008. I was one of few Fred supporters there along with RobfromGA.
While Ivan was fair minded, the rest of the forum were rabid Rudy supporters and anti Fred nuts. Luis Gonzalez was the biggest one of them all. He was unbelievably pro Roe v. Wade and he was very full of himself. He used to stalk the few of us there who were Fred supporters. And he was a moderator there, too.
The funning thing is today, we have Rudy doing work for and defending Trump while in retrospect, I think that Fred may have been a stalking horse for McCain.
But Rudy double downed on his support for abortion, and that was his undoing.
How sad and still young. I remember well Howlin, a sharp lady. RIP, Howling. Thank you silent_jonny for bringing this sad news to our attention.
Howlin supported Fred Thompson, not Rudy.
