Drug store chain CVS is closing 46 locations, including three stores in Alabama.
The closures represent less than 1 percent of the chains 9,000 locations nationwide. Each of the closures were at stores the massive retail chained deemed underperforming. The Alabama locations are in Huntsville, Mobile and Montgomery.
Some of the closures have already taken place while others are underway.
Overall business remains strong, CVS said, reporting 35 percent year-over-year increase in first quarter revenues to $61.6 billion.

LOL!....It took me a while..................
CVS - I go there often for their great prices on greeting cards, hair products and holiday decorations.
Our local CVS is a train wreck.(It’s not on the “Closed” list.) The lines to pick up prescriptions are RIDICULOUS. Wait times can be half an hour. They’re too busy selling Hershey bars, Pepsi, and hair coloring to be bothered with medicine.
I fired CVS and went to our local “Mom & Pop” drugstore. Prices are slightly higher, but my blood pressure is much lower.
A healthy trade-off.
Yeah. They stop selling tobacco products but still sell booze, candy, junk food and sugary sodas. Just as bad. Jerks.
One around the block from me.
Helped me many times.
Meh. They’re a PHARMACY. They’re moving more and more into the health care market, even including PAs and nurses on site. Selling cigarettes when the guy you’re waiting to see is telling you “Stop smoking!” seems congruent with their approach. Sure, they still sell candy, ice cream and alcohol. Nobody’s perfect.
The fact is that these stores are expensive to operate. The staff at the back counter probably runs $400-500k per shift.
CVS is creating pharmacy deserts in these areas. Where is the liberal outcry?
Phoenix...same same!
Recently went to CVS Minute Clinic, for the first time, for a shingles shot. I had an appointment. Once I signed the board showed my wait to be an hour and a half and they had just been open for an hour. I left and made another appointment. I was shocked at how few customers were in the store and then I got a look at their prices for every items. Grossly overpriced.
Exactly. Thats why I said So??!
I know, just supporting the “SO” comment.
Thanks for mentioning that.
Mine hasn’t gone out of it’s way to be helpful, but they have been competent and have provided good service.
They’re building a new one in my town, the same shopping center as an existing drug store.
I’m sure the other drug store is happy... /s
Illinois leads the pack with 7, including 4 in Chicago.
funny an investement guy tried to sell me a REIT that was all CVS stores, and I told him that is doing nothing but going downhill
good. IIRC, these guys were in bed with Team Obama.
I despise cvs. They can go belly up for all I care. Leftist controlled company.
