Speaker Pelosi accuses Attorney General William Barr of committing a crime: ‘He lied to Congress’

Key Points

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says Attorney General William Barr “lied to Congress.”

She says misleading lawmakers would be a “crime” if anyone else did so.

A Justice Department spokeswoman calls Pelosi’s comments “reckless, irresponsible and false.”

===========================================================

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday accused Attorney General William Barr of committing a crime by lying to Congress about special counsel Robert Mueller’s report and Mueller’s issues with how Barr has characterized its findings.

“What is deadly serious about it is the attorney general of the United States of America is not telling the truth to the Congress of the United States. That’s a crime,” the California Democrat told reporters.

Pressed again about the accusation, Pelosi said, “He lied to Congress. If anybody else did that, it would be considered a crime. Nobody is above the law.” Asked whether Barr should go to jail, the speaker responded that “there’s a process involved here.”

In a statement in response, Justice Department spokeswoman Kerri Kupec said “the baseless attack on the Attorney General is reckless, irresponsible and false.”

Pelosi’s comments appeared to reference answers Barr gave during House testimony last month when asked about reported frustrations Mueller’s team had with a summary the attorney general wrote about the special counsel’s report. The attorney general said he was not aware of concerns the Mueller team had about his summary. But it was revealed this week that Mueller wrote a letter to Barr expressing concerns about how the attorney general depicted the “substance” of the report — written before the attorney general testified.

Here is the exchange from an April 9 hearing that apparently sparked Pelosi’s accusation.

Rep. Charlie Crist, D-Fla.: Reports have emerged recently, general, that members of the Special Counsel’s team are frustrated at some level with the limited information included in your March 24th letter ... Do you know what they are referencing with that?

Barr: “No, I don’t. I think I think, I suspect that they probably wanted more put out, but in my view I was not interested in putting out summaries.”

The comment from the highest-ranking Democrat in the country intensifies the party’s criticism of the top U.S. law enforcement official. While Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have accused Barr of protecting Trump and having a conflict of interest, neither lawmaker has previously gone as far as alleging a crime.

Pelosi has so far resisted calls to impeach the president, which have intensified following the release of Mueller’s redacted report.

Democrats have questioned why the Justice Department decided not to charge the president with obstructing justice by trying to influence Mueller’s investigation. While Mueller declined to say whether Trump obstructed justice, he also noted that the report did not “exonerate” Trump and set out a detailed case for Congress to potentially investigate the president for obstruction.

Pelosi’s remarks Thursday follow a House Judiciary Committee hearing that Barr decided not to attend. The panel’s chairman, Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler of New York, threatened to hold the attorney general in contempt of Congress if he does not give access to Mueller’s full, unredacted report on the Russia probe.

Barr repeatedly defended Trump during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday. The president has contended Mueller’s investigation fully exonerates him on both questions of whether he obstructed justice and whether his campaign coordinated with Russian efforts to influence the 2016 election.

He repeatedly described the investigation as a “witch hunt” and has since falsely called the probe a “coup.”

Pelosi is a member of the Gang of Eight and has Full Knowledge of everything Russia, is more than likely Personally and Deeply Involved in the attempted Overthrow of the United State Government. Her actions before you are what is considered “an overt act in furtherance of a criminal conspiracy” to Overthrow the United States Government.

Ralph Steadman used to illustrate for Hunter S Thompson and Rolling Stone

An Englishman whose politics are rather leftist but nonetheless his illustrations as an allegory to me would capture the absurdity of the left in today’s America

The exaggeration and shrill retort at every turn

It’s really fascinating

I would love to see Steadman do Pelosi or Nadler or for Gods sake Schiff

Of course leftists rarely self examine on either side of the pond

He’s done Trump of course

And Obama and Bill and Hillary but it wasn’t that strong except the Bill zipper one was pretty good

Oh well

AG Barr: ‘We Have Multiple Criminal Leak Investigations Underway’ After Russia Probe!

PJ Media ^ | 05/02/2019 | Tyler O’Neil
Posted on 5/2/2019, 7:27:55 AM by SeekAndFind

On Wednesday, Attorney General William Barr revealed that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has launched many investigations into the constant leaks to the media during the Trump-Russia investigation. The DOJ is examining just exactly how mainstream media outlets had scoops on the investigation long before Congress had heard anything about the subject matter.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) asked Barr about the leaks in his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“The Inspector General found that during the department’s investigation of Hillary Clinton for mishandling classified information, there was a culture of unauthorized media contacts. During the Russian investigation, the leaks continued. Leaks undermine the ability of investigators to investigate,” Grassley argued. “Further leaks to the papers while Congress’s questions to the department go unanswered is unacceptable.”

“What are you doing to investigate unauthorized media contacts by the department and FBI officials during the Russian investigation?” he asked.

“We have multiple criminal leak investigations underway,” Barr responded.

Later in the hearing, Sen. Joe Kennedy (R-La.) suggested Barr extend the probes to special counsel Robert Mueller and his team as well. “When you’re investigating leaks at the Department of Justice and the FBI, I hope you will include the Mueller team as well,” Kennedy said, concluding his remarks.

Last month, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) said he had sent multiple criminal referrals to the Department of Justice, including some related to leaks.

“There are five direct referrals based on lying, obstruction, congressional investigation, and leaking. We have a global leaks referral, which involves just a few reporters but could involve multiple people. I don’t think it’s that many people because I think they probably only have a few sources within these agencies,” Nunes said.

He’s technically correct. Mueller is not members of his team, the question as quoted is also missing some extra detail. Barr was correct that he suspected they wanted more out but was also correct in stating his view. Apparently Mueller’s team wanted the 19 pages out when Barr didn’t want to release things piece meal and ended up releasing the whole thing with limited redactions on the time table specified in his letter. His letter also did not mischaracterize the report, it quoted the report.

He needs to be direct to them about the ongoing investigations and that they’re now obstructing justice themselves, continuing this reckless rhetoric will only lead to him investigating THEM. You go on full offense with these types, if they sense weakness they’ll pounce all over you but if you make it clear you’ll walk all over them they’ll back off.

Pelosi says Attorney General William Barr lied to Congress

As a matter of fact everybody lies to congress. Their lives are lies. Every statement and act by them is a lie.

That is Washington’s dirty little secret.

Indeed. If the pubes had any balls, they would rhetorically ask Barr if he would back down investigating communists in Congress and the FBI under democrat threats

But none of that
So democrats remain on the offensive unhinged

Ha!

Two weeks ago, I posted this:

If Democrats try to use their official powers to impeach Trump to block him from indicating them for a coup, wouldn't that be their definition of obstruction?

Isn't that just what they're doing now by going after Barr before he can finish his investigations into the beginnings of the coup attempt?
