Vatican City, Apr 29 (ANI) – Pope Francis recently donated USD 500,000 to help migrants in Mexico who are attempting to enter the United States, reinforcing the pontiff’s stance of welcoming migrants rather than stigmatizing them.

The funds will reportedly be distributed among 27 projects, undertaken by 16 Mexican dioceses and religious congregations, that made the call for assistance to provide food, lodging, and other necessities to the migrants, reports Sputnik.

“In recent months, thousands of migrants have arrived in Mexico, having travelled more than 4,000 kilometers on foot and with makeshift vehicles from Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala. Men and women, often with young children, flee poverty and violence, hoping for a better future in the United States. However, the U.S. border remains closed to them”, said a press release from Peter’s Pence, the organization which has been tasked with handling the funds, outlined.

The organization added that the migrants “were stranded, unable to enter the United States, without a home or livelihood,” and that is why the Catholic Church hosted “thousands of them in hotels within the dioceses or religious congregations, providing basic necessities,” including lodging and clothing.

The Pope had earlier outlined that the migrants bring with them the wealth of a multicultural and multi-ethnic world, urging nations to not be “afraid” of them...

That’s right - they have more than they know what to do with over there in Rome. I’m keeping mine here.

Just wondering...is there a reason why His Holiness wasn’t willing to donate these funds to the “migrants” when they were still living in their native countries? I mean...they probably needed the help then, too.

I give to the local parish; SVDP; and a token five bucks to the diocese just to let them know I didn’t forget about them, I’m stiffing them on purpose. Sort of like tipping a lousy waiter fifty cents. The rest of the national and international church can get along without my few shekels.

I’m not going to question the religious convictions of any Catholic on FR.

I will however question how any of you can continue to contribute money to the Catholic Church after this. Why not also send a donation to the UN and CAIR while you’re at it?

Why not invite them to live within the tall, safe walls of the Vatican?

Notice the Vatican is donating $500K for 75,000 migrants.

Do the math, that is $6.66 per "migrant"

. Pope Francis is doing evil towards the U.S.A.

Illegals are flooding into Tucson. Churchs reaping the harvest in govt. monies.

Why doesn’t he send the money to the countries they’re coming from so they won’t need to leave? Because he wants to destroy our capitalist society.

Pope Francis sending money to Mexican congregations to help migrants

Fleeing poverty and violence is not an excuse for asylum! Asylum is a protection granted to foreign nationals already in the United States or at the border who meet the international law definition of a “refugee.”

According to international law, a refugee is an individual who is outside his or her country of nationality or habitual residence who is unable or unwilling to return due to a well-founded fear of persecution based on his or her race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.

Vatican City has been surrounded by a massive protective wall for centuries. In fact, the wall was first built in 852 A.D. to fend off Muslim attackers, was expanded to its current size in the 1640s.
