Two staunch gun control advocates, HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel and Dick's Sporting Goods, got locked and loaded together for an assault on the Second Amendment last week. Real Sports reporter David Scott interviewed gun restrictions advocate Ed Stack, the CEO at Dick's Sporting Goods, to talk about why his business has discontinued sales of AR-15s.
"I don't want it in our stores, and it will never be in our stores. I think the risk out-weighs the reward," Stack (in photo) told Scott, an Emmy Award-winning producer.
Stack said, "This rifle has its genesis in war, and people can say that it's been modified and it hasn't been. But the origins of this gun, primary reason, was to kill. We thought it would impact our sales, ya know, $150 to $250 million."
"Sounds like a lotta money," Scott responded. "It is a lotta money," Stack replied.
Scott: "Clearly your position now is that particular gun doesn't belong in a sporting goods store."
"And we succumbed to the pressure," Stack said, "which is one of the things – I don't have too many regrets in my life and my business career, but that is one of them. I wish we had never done it."
As Scott related, Dick's lost customers, suppliers and a few dozen employees, but says his "only regret was to agree to sell the AR-15 as a sporting good to begin with."

Stopped going to Dick’s a while back.
This affects me not at all.
Will effect Dick’s and HBO in a continuing way.

I don't have a Dunham's near me, but I'd like to throw a plug in for Cabela's. I have always had a great experience either in-store, or online, with their stores.
Dick’s is telegraphing their virtue. Good for them.
They are also telegraphing their demise. Competitors are watching also.

Off hand, WE don’t. It is very likely the demographic and market data dsg has on hand says even with the loss of gun folk, they can stay profitable by both bending over to the market for cheap chinesium sporting “goods,” and kneeling in front of the antigun media. It is submission all around and completely driven by their market. WE are no longer their market.
If the dicks step in it with the under armor, yoga-mat, fishing rod, sleeping bag, golf club, ball-bat-raquet buying public (cheap chinesium grade), they will go down in the ignominy they so richly deserve.

I won’t go there anymore.
How’s their stock doing? Why aren’t these CEO’s fired for driving the stock down? Has TARGET recovered?

Wonder how the Game of Thrones would turn out for HBO, if only the White Walkers had weapons? Funny that they arm both sides in GOT but expect the law abiding to be disarmed in reality.

Not sure why anybody goes to dicks anyway. I don’t think they have much in the way of inventory I couldn’t find at Acadamy sports.....and a lot cheaper!
I put this one on the manufacturers. All firearms makers should refuse to sell anything to Dicks and instruct their distrubutors to do the same. Pushing gun control is hostile to the entire industry. Don’t sell to them.
