This has been going on since the days of town criers. The unbiased claim is what makes it propaganda.
Makes so much sense. Decades ago I know foreign governments were eagerly buying special sections to pitch their countries openly as great destinations for business. But implied and implicit was an effect of guaranteeing good content-page coverage of their countries as well.
How about all the rabid, neo-con Never Trumpers who use their special nonprofit status to not disclose their big donors? I’m thinking of the National Review. But even the policy think tanks that hire massive staffs to sprinkle op-eds across our published media and make talking-head appearances in our broadcast media.
Of course, we have the Big 6 media conglomerates and other corporate ownerships. I would think it would have to be pretty blatant to get down to individual MSM front-man actor-performers and writer/producers as vulnerable for their take as well.
I know we’ve seen the likes of Thomas Friedman’s massive DC-area mansion. But would his book sales early in his days of stardom and his NYTimes salary really have been enough to cover that?
