Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (I) argued Monday that all prisoners, including domestic terrorists like the Boston Marathon bomber, should have the right to vote while they are incarcerated.
Speaking at a CNN town hall, Sanders was asked if he believes the right to vote should extend to serious criminals, such as Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who is in prison and has been sentenced to death.
If somebody commits a serious crime, sexual assault, murder, theyre going to be punished, Sanders said. They may be in jail 10 years, 20 years, 50 years, their whole life. Thats what happens when you commit a serious crime."
"But I think the right to vote is inherent to our democracy," he continued. "Yes, even for terrible people, because once you start chipping away youre running down a slippery slope I believe even if they are in jail, theyre paying the price to society, that should not take away their inherent American right to participate in our democracy.
Earlier this month, Sanders called for more states to join Vermont and Maine in allowing imprisoned felons to vote.
After the senator's comments on Monday, CNN host Chris Cuomo told Sanders he might be writing an opposition ad against himself by arguing that the Boston Marathon bomber should be able to vote from jail.
Ive written many 30-second opposition ads against myself in my life, this will be just another one, Sanders said. But look, this is what I believe. Do you believe in democracy? Do you believe every single American 18 years of age or older who is an American citizen should have the right to vote?"

On the up side, it’s becoming a no-brainer to separate the sheep from the goats. Or the sane from the insane. The treasonous America haters from the Patriots. Dems hold absolutely nothing back now - no hidden agendas, no obfuscation, no shell games. All of their BS is on the table as the steaming crap it actually is.
On the other hand, having the state open a prison and put 3,000 criminals collected from around the state in your small town with full voting rights in local elections isn’t something where anything could go wrong, is it?
He’s done. There is no way he can win the presidency.
This is his “chuck her lard-ass into the van” moment.

He’s going for the domestic terrorist in prison vote :)
..youre running down a slippery slope...
How long have prisoners not been allowed to vote?
What slope has it slid to?
Pelosi gave the game way when she admitted that a glass of water would win in certain districts if it had a "D" behind it!!
Murderers take away their victims’ voting rights so deserve to lose the same.
Nailed it
The left sure loves criminals and terrorists. They also are really convinced they will all vote Democrat else they would not be saying this.
Speaking of Chuckey he I eerily quite and not in front of a camera for a while, where is chuckie?
I'm not advocating for early release, and I'm not saying giving incarcerated individuals a ballot is a great idea. My point is that the Founders implicitly considered this topic to be a State's Rights issue. Further, the early history of America supports this being a State's Rights issue, with most states banning inmates from voting. Let's leave this a State's issue.
He just lost Massachusetts.
Why is he still breathing?
