CNN)A year after her 1986 death, the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers erected a statue to honor renowned singer Kate Smith, whose rendition of "God Bless America" was played during home games for decades, including the 2018-2019 season. But on Sunday the Flyers announced they had removed the statue, saying the team had discovered some of her songs contained racist lyrics and sentiments that were "incompatible" with the organization's values.

Rap stars are REVERED in pop culture and media over presidents or anyone. Any rappers of age have had abusive lyrics regarding women. How long will this be allowed to stand? Even some R&B singers have some major apologies to put out there. I was listening to Rihanna the other day and the lyrics were extremely forgiving to being beaten by her guy. I’m sorry; that is not good for young girls to hear. We are beyond the 1940s where Billie Holliday can sing how she loves her man even though he beats her.
