CNN)A year after her 1986 death, the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers erected a statue to honor renowned singer Kate Smith, whose rendition of "God Bless America" was played during home games for decades, including the 2018-2019 season. But on Sunday the Flyers announced they had removed the statue, saying the team had discovered some of her songs contained racist lyrics and sentiments that were "incompatible" with the organization's values.

I was present in 1974 at the Spectrum when the Flyers had a key game in that Stanley Cup year. They played their lucky charm, the Kate Smith recording of God Bless America. For me, a historic moment. The Flyers won.

Kate Smith has been dead going on thirty-three years. One of the allegedly racist songs, "That's Why Darkies Were Born," (also recorded by Paul Robeson who, the last time I checked, was black) was recorded by her in 1931. What took them so long to find this out? You'd think that an organization that manages to make tons of money having a bunch of guys smack a rubber disk back and forth across a sheet of ice would be sharper than that.
They should replace it with Cardi B’s song “eat my ass” which has more meaning to snowflakes and Millennials. Commiecrats will love it.
Regarding the NHL; the LA Kings brought in Snoop Dog to do some guest commentary recently (horrible, needless to say)and celebrated him as an "honored" guest before the game. This is a guy who regularly puts out videos saying "F--k the President" while smoking pot outside the White House. There is also a video of snoop releasing a verbal string of F-U's and N-bombs against Conor McGregor after his fight with Maywether. Not a peep of "outrage" from anyone. I guess that type of behavior is in line with NHL and LA Kings values.
And not one statue of Senator KKK Bryd has been removed in WV . How utterly awful and hypocritical!

Excellent point. And it’s worth noting that Byrd was more than just a run-of-the-mill KKK member. He was an Exalted Cyclops, the top officer of his local Klan unit.

My daughter used to live in a high rise overlooking Soldier’s Field in Chicago. The band U2 sold out the stadium for its concert. She looked out the window and saw hordes of young white guys walking towards the stadium to attend the concert.
She called it the million white man march. lol
First the New York Yankees and now the Philadelphia Flyers. I heard they’re going to get Barbra Streisand to record a new song with these tentative lyrics:
All hate America, land that I loath,

So Kate Smith was ok when “God Bless America” was entertaining thousands of fans and made the show in Philly famous? But now she was offensive. Great way to use people for your own gain.
The Flyers and Yankees have no American “values”. Eff them.
